Don Quixote: Miguel de Cervantes (graphic novel)

Double Thumbs Up!
Don Quixote is a timeless classic of Western literature that still holds as much joy, mirth and relevance as when it was written in 1605.Davis doesn’t seek to modernise or jazz-up the story. Allowing it to play out and unfold in its own time without any need for abridgement or sensationalism. This isn’t a botch job for the Twitter generation but a real labour of love. The art style is simple like that of a newspaper strip cartoon but the masterful use of a limited palette enriches the work a thousand fold. Subtle tricks of framing and structure serve to mark out the tale-within-a-tale nature of the work to great effect. This translation of a masterpiece into a graphic novel is just as valuable as it’s translation into English four hundred years earlier.Double Thumbs Up!

Excellent graphic novel adaptation
A delusional bibliophile believes himself to be a knight on a quest. Excellent graphic novel adaptation of the Cervantes classic (the first half here, with Volume 2 to follow). An emphasis on slapstick humour throughout, on the value of stories, and on there being no harm in following your dreams. Lots of fun, and great to look at too.

Stunningly inventive
Not having read Cervantes I can't comment on how true an adaptation of the prose novel this comic strip version is, but in its own right it's a stunningly inventive, funny, brilliant, playful work. Davis's art is (deceptively) simple and clear, his colours beautiful and his comic timing superb. He takes a novel (or at least half of one, so far) that many would consider a daunting prospect and makes of it an accessible, funny work that, for all its ease of reading is, nonetheless, richly rewarding. A triumph.

Superb version of Don Quixote
Beautiful use of light and shade in these illustrations vividly captures the quality of the light in a hot country.Lovely simplicity to the illustrations and the text.Character development of Don Quixote was also done brilliantly. Looking forward to part two.

great story, good drawing
I am a big fan of the book, and i have recommended it to many friends without success. Thought this might be more accessable for friends and/or thier kids. The story is great and the drawing is good but not great, making it a 4 star instead of 5.
