The Paradiso

VERY disappointed, since I bought this version on the strength of its reviews.There was NO "side by side" translation to compare Italian/English.There were NO "copious notes".And there was NO mention anywhere of the actual translator.

Very good book and a must have for collectors of fine literature and good storytelling .I would advise people to grab a copy of this version as it's easy to understand

I truly enjoy reading the classics. However some classics must be translated. Some translations loose meaning since you can not translate word for word. Only the meanings can be translated and with the evolving English language sometimes words can have skewed definitions. John Ciardi is the best Dante translator I have read. Signet has done a good job at this price point. FYI this is only the inferno not the full divine comedy. But they others are available by signet and all translated by John Ciardi
