Review of Let the Drums Speak!
This was a great life story of Bernard Purdie, it tells the beginning of a great drummer, and the hardships and blessings he went through to get where he is today. I highly recommend reading this book even if you are not a drummer.

Generalized Overview
The book is a chronological account of Mr. Purdy’s life and activity schedule, but very little detail that would be of interest to curious musicians. Reads more like a calendar than a personal diary. Still worth a look.

Not just a Drummer!
As a drummer, from England, I've always been impressed by American drummers. I don't know what it is but they always seem far more engaged with the instrument than UK drummers, and appear to have a deeper understanding of technique and feel. Such is the case with Bernard Purdie. I have always thought that he epitomises all that is good in the American drum scene. This book provides huge amounts of insight into the man and, I think, leaves nothing out. It's comprehensive and includes the minutiae of his life from the highs to the serious lows. This is a must for any one interested in the living legend that is Bernard Purdie. May be it's that I am English, with all that that implies, but this man is the drummers drummer and symbolises, through his music, what America means to me, the will to succeed and the passion to continue through any adversity.
