Hands down the best traction for steep concrete steps that are always coated with hellish ice!
This stuff really is MAGIC! I used this on our death steps which always manage to have ice frozen on them from meltwater from our roof. Once I put this stuff sown it's like the ice doesn't even exist. I was super worried about my wife who has to carry my daughter up and down them at least twice a day and hoping for the best. Well with Traction Magic I no longer have to worry about it. Trust me I have taken at least 3 falls down my 1st floor to ground floor steps and the thought of my 7 month old and wife being brought down by stupid ice was not something I was willing to risk. So in a nutshell IT WORKS! And as an added bonus it dosent eat away at your mansonry /concrete...The only negative is it dosent all wash away once the snow melts and you have spring rains so you will have to sweep it up off your steps. Small price to pay for cheating an early death.

Keeps squirrels out of flower pots
This product works great as a squirrel deterrent! I sprinkle a layer all around the dirt inside my flower pots. Evidently they hate the texture.

If you're concerned about your pets and plants and slippery, icy surfaces, TRY THIS!!
I was looking for something "pet friendly" to combat slippery areas around our house when I saw this product. I was also looking for something that wouldn't harm plants. I found this product to be just the solution that I was hoping for. I read other people's reviews and saw that some people complained about Traction Magic being messy, staining walkways, being difficult to spread, etc. I figured I'd give it a try anyway because it's difficult to find a product that is safe for BOTH pets and plants. Our front steps get extremely icy in the winter because there is no gutter above that spot. Often during the day the steps get drenched from the melting of the snow on the roof, and at night all of that water turns to ice. After two or three days of warmer days and frigid nights, we've got a hefty ice ridge on the edge of the top step. If we were just using sand, it would get washed away, and it wouldn't stick to the ice sufficiently at night. Traction Magic is easy to spread thinly with the small dispenser bottle that comes included. I thought it was WAY too small to be useful when I first saw it, but the size makes it easy to fill (just take off the top and scoop it right out of the bucket), and the handle on the bottle enables you dispense the stuff by quickly flicking your wrist back and forth, leaving a thin layer. Being able to spread it thinly is important if, like us, you need to reapply daily when there are warm days and cold nights. It doesn't stick together in clumps, and I've discovered in the past couple of major melting days that the cleanup in the spring will be quick and easy. What washes into the flower beds can stay there, and all that's left is a quick sweep of the walkway and the steps. I don't see any staining on the concrete steps, but the product does show up on snow, but it's a dark brick red that disappears when the snow melts. The particles are tiny jagged pieces, and they stick in place on ice. It looks like crushed lava rock maybe. Our dogs aren't bothered by the product at all. If you want something that works well on slippery areas and won't harm your pets and plants, definitely consider this product. I haven't tried it for getting your car out of slippery spots yet, but I think it would work for that purpose VERY well because it won't get thrown by your tires like sand tends to. After you get used to applying it thinly, you'll see how a little goes a looong way. I thought that the 15 lb bucket would last a couple of weeks, but I've used it numerous times and barely made a dent. It does seem expensive, but if you spread it thinly you more than get your money's worth.

I wish it worked
We had snow followed by rain that quickly froze to ice, very dangerous. I decided to try buying the small container to see how it works. I tried spreading the smaller size container the moment it arrived. Unfortunately, it was gone quickly. It didn't cover much ground and after trying walking on it, I am sorry I did it. It does not provide enough traction that I am worried that people will rely on it to keep them safe when it won't. And since it does not melt the ice and is dark in color, it remains there, creating the impression of safety. I guess I can see keeping one of these very small containers in your car in case you have to exit your car onto ice in an emergency, by laying it down thickly, but for the price for so little material, I don't think I will be doing that. I could probably do the same with soil for free. One more thing, though not an issue since I used this all up in one go. The container has a rotating top like a salt shaker, but once I was able to pop open the sealed part, the entire top ring came off and does not pop back on, so is I had any left, I would not have been able to seal it back closed.Nice idea, sorry it didn't work for me.

Short term solution
This smaller size was enough for a narrow strip of a long walkway one time. As I poured it, wind blew a clay-like powder onto my pants and shoes. It washed off easily enough. It helped with traction for a couple of days but I think there may have been either a thaw and freeze, or it got ground into the ice, and after a couple of days it no longer helped and I would have had to re-do it.I had a washer and dryer being delivered and it's my first year in this climate and house and I didn't anticipate the ice sheet that formed after I placed my order. This product it not powerful enough to convince delivery guys to transport your washer over your ice-sheet of a front yard. Totally fair, I respect their safety and security and we came up with a compromise, but don't think that this is going to be OSHA compliant. So for just me and just for a day at a time it's good. But you'll need it in bulk quantities if you have glacier problems.

Keeps my husband safe!
.Incredibly helpful and convenient! My husband has a job where he is out in the elements all winter...and he is so stubborn about using anything I buy him, and, he doesn't want any extra weight in his supply bag -but this product, he actually admitted that it helps him!,and, because the container is not too heavy, I can actually get him to bring it with him.I do wish the containers were refillable, Not even having to do with cost, but because it is wasteful just throwing them out...But I am so grateful to this product for keeping my husband safe - the most important thing in the world to me! :).
