Can you lock it half way down or it's only either up or down ? Thank you.

It probably depends on the weight of your device. With my camcorder, I can adjust all three legs at different heights at the same time and it's sturdy. With a heavier device it may very well weigh it down to fully open as the only option. There is no "locking" option for height adjustment.

Is this tripod compatible with Matterport 3D Camera?

If your camera has the standard 1/4x 20 thread, should fit.
