Quality wins
I have had a KitchenAid stand mixer since the 70s (yes, avocado green!) and it continues to perform excellently. I also have a few attachments that continue to work well over many, many years. I have wanted to make pasta and already have a good brand crank pasta roller. However it doesn't fit well on my counters, is a bit of a pain to use and subsequently I rarely used it. So I decided to change that. After researching pasta roller attachments, I decided on the "tried and true" KitchenAid one. And it is perfect! It fits my old mixer as advertised. And now I can make pasta very easily and quickly. And cleanup is just a quick brush with the brush that comes with it. Very satisfied!

This is the best one I have tried.
I tried the Gvode and this roller easily out performs it. I am absolutely happy with it. Starting with the proper dough is a big part of success here. I followed Emeral’s recipient for semolina pasta dough; 2 1/2 cups (course) semolina flour, four large eggs, salt: mix, kneed, let rest wrapped for 1/2 hour . It will be a bit stiff. Smash it out to 3/8 or 1/4 inches thick before running it through at the first setting. I run it through and double it up and run it again a few times until it’s a homogenous, neat sheet. Then I’ll run it through at each more narrow setting until I have the thickness I need for each type of pasta I’m making. For tortellini or ravioli, I take it to the thinnest setting. You can see through it. It’s plenty strong too, as long as the starting dough is right. But beware, as each setting rolls it thinner, it gets longer. I cut the strip into manageable lengths as it grows. The coarse semolina flour works well. My pasta has a rich yellow color as well as making smooth and strong sheet. The resulting pasta grips sauces a bit better. Using a drier dough leaves almost NO mess in the machine. I have yet to have to clean it. The roller has a built in plastic part that is designed to break if something like a todler’s hand get pulled into it. It snaps to prevent making a 30 foot-long toddler noodle. Kitchen aid doesn’t sell the replacement part but someone reverse engineered it and it’s available for sale online. It’s a bit costly, but better than having to just throw the roller away. If I have any complaint about this product at all, it would be that kitchen aid would make this failsafe feature more known in its literature, as well as making the replacement part more available at say, $5 per. At this point people are simply tossing the broken rollers out or buying new ones. Seems like and easy oversight to fix. Anyway, a happy camper here. It’s absolutly easy to use ( if you have some experience rolling pasta to start with) and makes ravioli making fast ( if you have one of those pattern press thingys). It’s kinda fun, too. I hum Italian restaurant songs and play up the wee bit of Italian blood I have to the max... while drinking red wine. Thank you, ancestors, for all of this !

fresh pasta is way better.
There's nothing better than fresh pasta. The attachment makes best noodles! Get good at it and you can make fresh noodles quicker than then boiling dried noodles.

If Nonna could've used one, she would have
I bought this instead of investing in the more-expensive pasta roller and cutter set. First, while I love Kitchen Aid mixer products and appreciate their value, I didn't think a $150 investment was really going to pay off for my household. Would we even use the three attachments enough to justify the cost? Second, I figured I could hand-cut the pasta or use a pastry wheel (and we also have one of those low-tech wooden rolling pins that makes tagliatelle--very cost-effective tool that doesn't take up much space), and I'd be able to make stuffed pasta as well. Third, I know from making pasta with my mom as I was growing up that the hand-cranked machines require you to have three hands. They may be traditional, but they're also kind of a pain. I know using an electric-mixer attachment may not be "traditional" but I can promise you that if my nonna and my mom could have used one of these, they would have. (In fact they'd have looked at you like you were crazy if you'd suggested that using this somehow betrayed their Italian heritage, or that they should keep using the more difficult hand-cranked machine instead of an electric one that saves mounds of time.) It works great. Follow the instructions, learn the consistency that dough should be before you put it in the roller--because if it's not dusted enough with flour it will stick and be hard to clean the rollers--and go for it. Homemade pasta is easier than even I thought it would be. As for this machine, roll the dough strips on a thick-ish setting a couple of times, then make the setting thinner, do it a couple times, etc. Cleaning is easy, assuming your dough is properly floured--you don't immerse this in water, just use the included brush. If some dough does stick, wait till it dries and then brush it off. I don't regret my purchase one bit. In fact I doubt I would've made homemade pasta without it, given my memories of struggling with the hand-cranked machines (which themselves were a huge improvement over just a rolling pin). Still on the fence about whether I need the cutter attachments, but I promise you this one is worth the investment.

Finally had to replace my 30 yr old model
This is my second KitchenAid Pasta Roller. The first one lasted 30 years, before the safety shear pin failed rolling some particularly dry pasta -- my own fault really. I tried a 4-star roller from a 3rd-party seller on Amazon; but after breaking two of them in less than 2 minutes each -- no, the dough wasn't dry -- I ordered this roller. It works every bit as well as the 30-year old model. The design has changed slightly, along with some materials, but where it counts, this is still a heavy-duty, metal-in-all-the-right-places pasta roller. It attaches securely to my 30 year old machine and runs as quietly as the old model. The thickness dial adjusts easily, but make sure the dial engages a detent before running pasta through -- it puts greater dynamic load on the roller mechanism if the pasta forces the roller and dial to the next detent than if you set the detent yourself. Cleaning the unit is as easy as ever. Let it sit overnight and the dried pasta and flour will wipe off. I think this unit may last as long as my last one. I feel compelled to also respond to another review that complained about the lack of safety of this unit, and earned a large number of 'Helpful' ratings. The unit in that review's photograph was not this pasta roller, which troubles me. Furthermore, having personally broken a KitchenAid pasta roller myself, I can say that its failure wasn't the least bit alarming -- under excessive loading rolling too-dry pasta (my fault), the KitchenAid motor began to slow, then, with a sound like slicing a head of lettuce, the nylon safety shear pin in the pasta roller sheared off as it is supposed to, and the rollers just stopped turning. The KitchenAid itself was fine, and so was I -- other than feeling stupid.

Works well, I don't use it as much as I should though
I bought this before I bought the Kitchen aid Pasta Press. I've made ravioli with this a few times and it does a great job, though it can seem tedious to run the dough through this several times and then move to the next size down, repeating that process until you get to the thickness you need. It's certainly easier than using a rolling pin though, so if you're going to make lasagna noodles or ravioli a lot this thing should come in very handy. If you'd rather have macaroni or spaghetti you might think about the pasta press instead. That's not a problem with this thing, just make sure you're buying the right tool. I do plan on using this more than I have and look forward to making some lasagna noodles soon. It's very easy to use, you just need a good dough to start with and slowly feed it through the rollers. You'll want to repeat that process while also trying to hold the dough steady to allow it to fill up the full width of the rollers. As long as you can do that getting two sheets of dough for ravioli is a breeze.

Quality investment
Works great! Exactly what we needed to replace rolling out thin dough by hand. Highly recommend

This was my prized purchase for 2016!
This was my prized purchase for 2016! When I purchased my 103 year old Hotel/cafe two years ago one of the appliances that came with the cafe was a very old Kitchen Aid. I would estimate about a a 1960's model. I used the old Kitchen Aid a few times, but using the KA was cumbersome and I found hand mixing just easier...well it's pasta making season, I make noodles for my cafe, and my brother and son wait anxiously for their home noodle Christmas gifts. I started using the KA pasta roller attachment this past week and I am on my third batch. WOW! I previously used a hand crank pasta roller and in retrospect, what a pain!! the KA pasta roller made the whole process slick, time saving and effortless. I am now looking to purchase the lasagnette noodle cutting attachment, as I am currently cutting noodles with my Marcato Atlas Wellness 150 pasta maker (I'll review that in a minute) Right out of the box, it is a beauty and well made. attaching it to the KA is a no brainer...you remove the round cap off the KA mixer, loosen the locking screw, slip it into the KA (has a little tab that ensures the roller is installed properly) then tighten down the locking screw and there you have it! I used it on the lowest speed, made sure the pasta was well floured and off I went. I think one of the best features was that it enabled me to work hands free, not having to manually crank the dough through, (deal with the handle slipping out of the pasta maker) while trying to guide the pasta through. I don't need to EVER buy this product again, but I will buy other KA noodle cutters! If anyone is considering purchasing a KA Pasta roller, don't hesitate, you will be glad you did!

Excellent quality and precision so far very happy with it.
Very good quality and precision; when it comes to pasta rollers I advise everyone not to but cheap products ( got first another product for 50% of the cost that was laminating and cutting tagliatelle and spaghetti all in the same piece... a total disaster and I had to throw it in the bin (I even made a review on YouTube). This is just like the one that came originally with the machine. If you are making your own tagliatelle, lasagne and spaghetti as often as a couple of times a week only use a sturdy and precise product, I promise it pays back.

Superb
Superb attachment for the KitchenAid. Having previously used a manual pasta roller, this attachment is faster, easier and more efficient to use, and produces wonderful pasta ... better than ever. Highly recommend.

Damaged box
The box received was too damaged for a pricey item. It should be handled with care as this is fragile, attachment must be perfect to fit the kitchenaid body. Still need to test the item, hopefully nothing has been damaged
