The Run Walk Run Method Review: Great book for First time runners - Great book if just starting a running program. Jeff has a lot of tips for the beginners Review: Great book about Galloway's Run Walk Run Method - This is the first book I read by Jeff Galloway. The book is informative and helpful, but it is also a little repetitious. Perhaps he repeats things to underscore their importance; I don't know. What I do know is he has run for 40 years without a running injury and his method really works. His book does a decent job of covering every aspect of his Run Walk Run method. It does not include training schedules for different length races. He has some on his website, and he covers them extensively in his other books. But this book is great for learning about the Run Walk Run method.

good but repeats itself alot
I enjoyed Jeff Galloway's run walk run book. I found it and his website very enlightening, encouraging and helpful. I run differently now after reading his work. And I feel better about my running strategy and form. I believe now that I can and will run a half after reading this book. The only beef I have is that the book tends to repeat itself.

It's OK, but there's a lot of fluff
I got this book because I'm always getting injured when I run and I'm hoping that I can use this technique to avoid further pain. I've heard Jeff Galloway on a few podcasts and he sounds like an interesting guy. I'm still recovering from my last injury so I can't comment on the actual technique, but I can comment on the book and how it's written. Overall, the book has some interesting information in it, but it's got a lot of fluff. It doesn't read like a cohesive book, but rather like each chapter is a separate pamphlet written to extol some feature of the run-walk-run method. Thus, the book is very repetitive. One of the basic issues is that taking walk breaks while you run isn't very complicated. A lot of people do it out of necessity. So it's hard to take that advice and stretch it out to 190 pages, let alone the industry that Jeff Galloway has created. The actual nugget of hard information: running a mile and using that pace to recommend the amount of walking and running, and then making adjustments based on weather and injury is unique to Galloway's method. That portion of the book is good and I don't regret buying the book because of it. But again, it can be described in 10 pages and a lot of that is online at Jeff Galloway's website. Finally, there is some useful advice about the mental aspects of the Run-Walk-Run method and whether this is a lesser sport than continuous running. That's interesting but again it's a few pages' worth of material. The book is written for beginners, but is missing a lot of information. It lists target pace ranges for each scenario, but neglects to mention that the pace listed is the net pace with the run and walk. So if it recommends a 14 min/mile pace with 1 minute running and 30 second walking, that 14 minute includes the walk portion, the run portion will necessarily be faster. I was able to find that on some Galloway forum and a Galloway minion said it was a common question. But if it's a common question, they should put it in the book! The book doesn't really say you should find a Galloway trainer, but after considering all the details that are left out, I wonder if that's not part of the message. I would recommend that people interested in this book visit Jeff Galloway's website. Galloway has a couple running exercises described in the book: the Cadence Drill and the Acceleration Glider which made no sense to me in the book. But on Galloway's website he has links to YouTube videos where he demonstrates them and those are very helpful. There's enough information in here that I don't regret buying it, but I'd recommend people look for a used copy and look at his videos.

Exactly What I Needed to Get Me Running Again!!
Great information and inspiring. It made me feel like I can start running again without injury. Ordered 2 more of his books. Others complained about too many testimonials; for me the successes of those others is confirmation that I can succeed, too. Some complained about his references to his site and his products. Everyone does that and I believe he means it more to be a virtual coach and provide resources rather than just to sell more stuff. He’s got proven tools, so use them! WE CAN DO THIS!

Just try it... it works.
I'm training for a half marathon and utilizing the Run Walk Run method. You can get most(probably all) of the information you are looking for off his website. But I wanted to check out the book for any more insight since I'm actually using the program. I probably picked up a few tidbits from reading the book. As many people have said the book is very repetitive. If often repeats things 3,4, or 5 times. I can't tell if it is bad editing or just repeating to try to get his points across. Either way the method works. I'm using a Run 3 minutes walk 30 seconds method and I haven't been injured at all during my runs, I feel great the day after my long runs, and my timing is actually faster than running straight. The BIGGEST hurdle to this method is MENTAL. You have to adjust your mind to say, I'm not weaker just because I'm walking. I'm actually smarter and faster. But as a guy something is ingrained in me that says I'm a wimp because I'm walking. Just fight through these thoughts and try out the method. It works. I even got my wife to join me on the method. She's training with me. We usually run together. I would pass her while I was running and then she would catch up while I walked. Eventually I would pass her while running and then she wouldn't quite catch up. She found that really frustrating because I was resting all this time during the runs and she was running the whole time. We finished at the same time but she was much more tired. She's now run walk running with me. :)

This is a good book for people who want to run and feel ...
This is a good book for people who want to run and feel that they can't do it. The "Run Walk Run" method made it easy for me to complete a Half Marathon. I have two of Jeff's books, the Run Walk Rub Method and Half Marathon. I don't think that you need both books, but for me, I find it helpful to have both. I f you are planning on a specific distance race, like a marathon or a half, you might want to buy just the one boom. But, if you are like me, and plan to run different distances, you might need the RWR Method.
