This book fills a rare niche.
Thank you for this great book. It fills a niche that few books address. Most often when the Black community is discussed in the media, in movies, even in academia or in casual conversations, people speak about the bottom 40% of the Black community. In that community, people may be on welfare and/or live in housing projects. They may be unemployed, struggling to get by. Many think that this is the total. Well, there is another 60%, to start. This memoir is about an even rarer slice, the top 10% of Black Life in the US. WEB DuBois called them the talented 10th. Their values, his daily activities, his thinking patterns are on display in this book. This memoir depicts the life of a Black male from an upper-middle-class educated intact family in a US Southern State. I've read other Black memoirs from a subset of this population, but this is my first from a family that is 3rd generation college. Add Division 1 athlete to that equation and it gets even more rare. Collis' life combines the discipline of athletics, academia with Southern Jim Crow roots. Outstanding! There are a rare combination of skills needed to excel in the South. Collis found a way to write about them. The exercises at the end of each chapter, are amazing and on point. You get the story, then you get things to think about. If you so desire, you can hone these skills for yourself. Anyone who aspire to be confident, secure and engaging, this is a GREAT read with issues to think about. For those of us who know thousands of these young men, with different stories, but similar values and mindsets, it was great to finally see one presented in print. Collis demonstrates that all Black males are not "thugs," hoping to get by. Using the blue print from his book, you too can aspire to be the master of your life.

The information in the book is well written easy to follow and keeps your attention in the subject matter which is winning in life. Collis is a great example of a person having a never give up mindset, goal(s) driven and set on reaching those goals. I loved how he made his family part of the book to many times you have a great book with awesome content but it doesn't give a a view of the writer's personal story and how they achieved the level of success that they enjoy today. Great job Collis & T.E.A.M!!!

Tremendous Honesty and Insight!
In the true spirit of sharing for the purpose of uplifting others, Collis has hit the mark. He itemizes the foundational beliefs that drove this family to uncommon success. They are simple, basic and can work for you. Leaders as busy as he is rarely are able to force themselves to stop and write these principles and lessons down. Collis has and it has paid off big time.

Work Like A Slave, Think Like A Master is a book every goal oriented person should read. The only way anyone can succeed is by writing your goals down and keep doing whatever it is that will help you accomplish those goal. I highly recommend this Boo.

Excellent!
Besides being an easy read, this book was very encouraging and thought-provoking. As I continue to grow as a leader, the nuggets shared here will definitely be applied. As a fellow Primerican, Mr. Temple is someone whom I look up to, and whom I consider as a mentor of mine, and this book solidifies that role.

Wish I read this years ago!
I did not want to put this book down. From the moment I started, it penetrated my mind. I think that he shares his truth as per his experiences, which given his successes is quite valuable. He gives tangible tools and resources for the successes he has attained.
