Excellent model of K.I.T.T.
This car is a good-looking replica of the TV Knight Rider machine. It has working lights and an extra trick up its sleeve: the red radar in the bonnet sweeps realistically from side to side and is remarkably bright.I added a digital plug revision H and we did some electronic surgery to wire up the lights to be on permanently. It was then that we noticed the big capacitor at the front. This keeps the sweeping red light working for a couple of seconds when the car comes to a halt. It will continue to do that in analogue mode. Wiring in the new digital plug gives all the lights permanent power even when stopped, so now on a digital track the sweeping light keeps going all the time, stationary or not.A digital plug can be installed fairly easily, maybe some log-nosed pliers will be needed to disconnect the old blanking plate carefully. The rewiring for the revision H plug is optional and requires an extra plug and socket with wires to be soldered delicately to the digital plug and replaces the wiring for the lights. This requires a small soldering iron and a steady hand, not for the faint-hearted nor the very young. I have normal-sized soldering irons and they are too big for the delicate job of connecting a small 4-pin socket to the circuit board.K.I.T.T. is ready to race on an analogue Scalextric track, and easy to modify to digital. Making the lights work permanently with a revision H digital plug requires delicate small-scale soldering, which could have been made slightly simpler if Hornby had installed the required second socket on the revision H digital plugs, but they have to be bought separately and soldered in.There was plenty of space inside the bodywork for the modified wiring. The car drives smoothly and looks great. Very pleased with it.
