Warning: HIGHLY addictive (and good for you)!
First time user of matcha. I got lucky trying these sticks first. They are very, very good. I bought these sticks and the "Use Matcha" tin of ceremonial grade as well. I tried one after the other. They are both excellent; these matcha sticks tasted almost "flowery." Powder is light green, mixes well and the caffeine effect lasts for hours. Use these at work with xylitol and almond milk. At home I add vanilla. Good warm or cold. Note these sticks are ceremonial grade as well. I have been drinking this instead of coffee. LOVE. IT.

and because the box itself was just folded cardboard rather than something like a tin
I had some reservations when buying this, given how affordable it is. Quality ceremonial matcha generally runs 75 cents to a buck per gram, meaning this 20-gram box should reasonably cost $15-$20. More, even, since it's got all the additional packaging overhead costs of breaking it into single-serve packets. I picked it up at $12, which should've warned me off.It arrived poorly packaged. I don't mean the Amazon fulfillment "overall box" packaging, but the internal package of matcha. One of the "sticks" had burst in shipment (I don't know how common or avoidable this is), and because the box itself was just folded cardboard rather than something like a tin, the powder fell out and contaminated every other item in the larger Amazon box. I'm so grateful the other items in the shipment weren't the sort that could be ruined by having a very fine, staining powder cover every inch of them. Usually, this would turn out a lot worse. Ultimately only the manufacturer knows how often a packet breaks, but considering it could easily ruin electronics and books during Amazon fulfillment, I'd like to at least see the matcha box sealed up with tape to prevent the worst. On to the tea itself: the color was fine, I think. It was reasonably bright. It wasn't the sort of "electric green" I usually look for, but it wasn't anywhere near a dull brown. I'm somewhat colorblind, so take my comments on color with a grain of salt.It foamed up well with a mini-kitchen whisk, not a chasen. Since most people utilize blender bottles or whisks rather than sitting down with a chawan and chasen, this seemed more representative. Water was heated to 78C and cooled to 77C before adding to the powder. I'm careful with water temperatures to try and avoid creating bitterness; in this instance, I'm glad I was, because this tea was ultimately quite bitter. The marine and vegetal notes were strongly present, with more depth than lightness. The marine element played a much stronger role in the nose than on the tongue, and may ultimately have been negligible in a cooled drink (e.g., as part of a spinach shake). It had a long-lasting aftertaste: my wife and I each gave it 30s before we started reaching for an Oolong to try and wash it down with, and that only partially helped. Ultimately, the bitterness was not so potent as to be actively bad, but it was potent enough to keep this matcha from being something we could drink for pleasure.I attempted to modify the cup with 2tsp milk and 1tsp ginger-infused simple syrup, aiming for something to lighten the bitterness and add some higher notes to counterbalance the depth of the matcha, without going off the deep end on sweeteners. The ginger elevated the marine notes to greater prominence, and although the milk did smooth out the bitterness somewhat, the final result was actually less drinkable. I'd take another stab at this with a sprinkle of salt (which cuts down on bitterness, and is why you see the best hot cocoa recipes often include a bit), but at this point, I just couldn't stomach anymore.I will revisit this matcha again for a cold brew, likely as part of a spinach-and-berry breakfast shake, and see how it works out there.

Easy, Tasty, and High-Quality Tea for Even the Busiest Person
I love this tea! I received it at a reduced price in exchange for my honest opinion and I can honestly say that I loved it. It's great to drink on-the-go and it mixes so easily which was a big concern for me. I didn't want it to be clumpy and undrinkable. Thankfully it was great. I loved this tea and I give it 5/5 stars.

Not disappointing
If you are seeking a sweeter variety of matcha, this isn't it. That said, artificial sweetener is very compatible with this product. I love the color once mixed, and - call it placebo or otherwise - I do find myself feeling better simply drinking it. Teas tend to have a nauseating effect for me, but I haven't noticed such with this.

Yummy
I bought this because I love getting green tea lattes from Starbucks but they are pretty pricey. I figured I would try to make them at home. So glad I did. I love the way this matcha tastes and I love the pre-measured packets. It is unsweetened but I just add a tbs of brown sugar. Delicious. =)
