After much research I decided to opt for the original Varier Balens. I have suffered from lower back pain for some time and became lazy and slouchy spending lots of time behind computers badly designed and fitted office chairs. Bad posture was significantly contributing to ongoing discomfort and exacerbating the condition. The Varier Balens is very easy to transition to and puts my back into a great upright and natural position. The quality of the maple wood rails and cushion pads allows great flexibility whereas cheap copies are fixed more rigid not allowing core movement and core muscle engagement. Absolutely love it.

I bought this to relieve lumber pain during long work sessions, but as a result of leaning on this, and 'active sitting' as encouraged, I seriously strained my upper back and neck. I've ended up buying a completely different chair instead. Secondly, other reviewers are correct that the workmanship is terrible - I had to force it together since the drill holes were not aligned properly, and almost hurt my back just assembling it. By contrast it really makes you appreciate IKEA furniture. With that in mind, the price is preposterous - a borderline scam. It's also cost me a lot in medical bills since! Avoid.

I've been using this chair for a good month now and really have nothing to say against. First and foremost, it was really easy to assemble, a matter of minutes with one single tool (that was in the box). Then se seat helps you sit straight, and it is very 'adaptable' in the sense that you can have several positions thanks to the equilibrium system. I feel my back is not as much under constraint as it was before.
