My favorite book of the year... maybe decade!
This book was so helpful, inspiring and beautiful that I read nearly the whole thing as soon as I opened it. Then I read it a second time and bought a 2nd copy for a friend within a couple of weeks. James is such a talented, successful and encouraging artist and he shares so much incredible wisdom about his process, how he got his start as a graphic designer, successes and failures, working with clients, dealing with rejection, and in general just how he has paved his way as a fulfilled and successful freelance graphic designer. The book is beautifully designed and printed. It feels so much more special (the weight, the layout, the print method...) than a typical book so it would make a great gift. Even if you're not much of a reader, this book as fun to thumb through, check out some rad designs, and digest some quick tips and short pieces of James' story. This guys is seriously the most honest, encouraging, positive, community-oriented and inspiring person... and also happens to be a ridiculous designer! We need more voices like his in the world.

Every designer should have this book.
This book rocks. When I stumbled across James' IG feed a few years ago I was tickled to see him working with a pencil and paper for idea generation. (This was how I was taught in school too.) I immediately became a fan.Even though I don't do much design these days I HAD to get his book. I found it to be thoughtful, uplifting, informative, honest and motivating. It's chock full of great design and business advice. Since the events of 2020 (that can't be mentioned) forced us indoors, I found myself disorganized with my time, in a bit of a funk, and constantly 'working.' The section that discusses schedule really hit home for me. Weird? Maybe. But it has been impactful for me. I find myself emulating his schedule and it has CHANGED my mornings. Of course, that is a small section of the book. He discusses his process, shares incredible work studies, and more. It is all GOLD. It will be a book I continually refer back to for sage advice and inspiration. This fellow is a true talent and one of my favorite designers. If you're on the fence about purchasing - just do it. You'll be glad you did.

Cool Art + storytelling = a book that will open your eyes and look at life and business differently
What I got out of his book was massive. Not only are we seeing a glimpse into how his career started and viewing ridiculously coo art, we are learning tools he adopted to become better in his craft & improve his life. I learned tools for better time management through organization and process, the skill of patience, the power of our mindset, growing from our mistakes and in a nutshell, to become a happier, healthier & kinder "human".If you are in sales or a business owner like myself, Chapter 4 is a must read. This chapter will get you thinking differently and it is powerful stuff. The book covers serious topics but adds some humor which I loved. I got so much out of it, I bought copies for friends, family, customers and to set in my business lobby. Clients and vendors will find this much more interesting and visually appealing than any industry related magazine.I don't write reviews, I had to write this one.

Very Good Book
This book was not only informative but very entertaining! I started with Logo Design Fundamentals and started drawing logos. And that was a great intro book. But I needed to go deeper. So because I had a free trial with Kindle Unlimited, I started searching for more books on logo design and came across this gem! The cover is what drew me to this book, so I started reading it and ended up purchasing it because I love how James explains the business side of things, most importantly, the processes which are very important. Thank you Made By James!

Down-to-earth yet value-filled
What you’ll notice first about this book is its physical beauty and high quality production: large format, embossed hard cover, gorgeous gold spine, full color and full bleed throughout, simple and elegant color scheme, dynamic page layouts, etc. There is no mistaking this was a serious and intentionally assembled book. But what you’ll soon come to realize next is that it's not simply a pretty coffee table piece (although it certainly isn’t not that) but that it is filled with valuable and actionable content. The way James can simultaneously write from a place of humility, being so down-to-earth, yet provide so much knowledge and insight is a rarity. His pure love and joy for the craft (and for helping others find their way) shines brightly through these pages.
