Even if you *have* to read it for class, I would recommend reading it all the way through if you’re a good writer who wants to be a great writer! Review: I like it - and writing is not my thing - I'm not much of a writer, so naturally I only bought this because it was required for a class. It is in fact quite readable, and has many good ideas in digestible chunks. It is particularly good at pointing out where the simple rules most of us learned in school don't apply, or at least can be broken for good reasons. My wife, a much better writer, is now reading the book, and seems to find it useful as well.

I like it - and writing is not my thing
I'm not much of a writer, so naturally I only bought this because it was required for a class. It is in fact quite readable, and has many good ideas in digestible chunks. My wife, a much better writer, is now reading the book, and seems to find it useful as well.

fantastic reference on style and voice
most grammar books sort of peter out towards the end. The last section of the book is brilliant, especially when it dissects the tone of the declaration of independence. it is also an excellent basic grammar and punctuation reference.

I've not yet had time to dive into this book but I'm excited to do so very soon! I really like the layout of the chapters and how the authors worked in practice prompts so that you are not only reading about writing, but actually practicing it too.

Highly recommend this book
I bought this book as a required reading for a writing class and I actually ended up taking away very useful information that I now use in my writing. I would recommend this book to anyone looking to improve their writing

Interesting slicing on the pages
I bought the new, loose-leaf version of this book and am mostly satisfied with the purchase. There are handfuls of pages that look like they've been sliced on the corners with scissors so they stick together and have caused other pages to rip, too. Arrival time was super prompt and the price point was fair!

This is one of the best guides to learn how to write effectively. I buy it to all my PhD students when they start. One can read the book from front to back page, or pick lessons at random. It covers everything, from grammatical rules to restructuring sentences for maximum impact.
