An unputdownable, spellbinding classic read
The Railway Children by Edith Nesbit is an enthralling read for children of all ages. It is the tale of three children who are happy and comfortable in their London villa. Suddenly, one night, two strangers meet their parents. That is the night everything changes in their lives. Their father goes off somewhere, and thir mother tells them that they are shifting. The three children Roberta, Peter and Phyllis find themselves in a new life. They don't go to school, they do all the housework, the railway is their chief source of entertainment. Their father is away, and their mother supports the family with her writing. The characters of the children are intriguing. Roberta or Bobbie is the oldest. She is a sensitive, loving and compassionate twelve year old child. She hates to see her mother unhappy. She knows that her mother is sad because of their father's absence and tries to avoid herself or her siblings speaking about him. Her trustful, loving nature will capture the reader. Peter is a forthright and open ten year old boy. He is outspoken, bold and energetic. He is always quarelling with Bobbie for some reason or the other. He is innocent and does not understand thir family situation as much as Bobbie does. His optimism and attempts to act heroically will leave the reader in a state of laughter. Phyllis is the youngest child. She is a clumsy, sweet natured child. She is quite mature for her age. However, most of the times she has difficulty keeping up with Peter and Bobbie and their ideas. Yet, she plays alongside to the best of her ability, which add a charm to her character. The children at first, find it quite difficult to cope up with their new lives. Yet, soon they style down. Their adventures by the railway will leave the reader spellbound. The courage, innocence and honesty of all three is really amazing. The children befriend a lot of grown ups such as their 'old gentleman', Perks the porter, the station master and so on. Despite their poverty, the largeness of their heart extends to everyone. But they still have a great sorrow in their lives - thir father's absence. Only Bobbie and her mother know the truth. It is up to Bobbie to leave the matter in the right hands and do the best for thir father. But can she?.. The Railway Children was written in the Edwardian times and still is relevant to modern readers. It takes the Reader through a roller coaster of emotions such as love, sorrow, friendship, understanding, realization and many more. The courage, tolerance and adaptability of all three children will enchant the reader. It is an overall unputdownable classic that leaves the reader spellbound and groping for more...

Great gift for young train mystery enthusiasts.
Gifted to a friends railway enthusiast son who had already read this book a few times. He did not however have a hard copy edition until now. He was very excited at the prospect of adding this favorite story to his railroad stuff and I suspect it will remain a piece of his treasured collection for many years.

Molto bello, soprattutto la copertina e le illustrazioni. Esteticamente è più piccolo di quel che mi aspettavo, ha un formato strano
