Superbly written as a result of good therapy
This is vastly superior to the usual film star memoir. Superbly written including humorous passages and agonising accounts of sexual abuse. Sally Field has remarkable powers of recall. This is really a complex account of a daughter mother relationship. Conflicted and loving she and her mother tried to pull away but were deeply dependent on one another. She is honest about her mothers many failings and fairly honest about her own.The cost of being driven to be a serious actress and accepted as such is described, though one does wonder if the sacrifice of others was really worth it.Sally Field is remarkably honest, though when she apologised the Vietnam veterans for perhaps belittling their sacrifice I feel she is pandering to her editor or her more conservative readers. She seems in a hurry to finish skirting over 4 series of Brothers and Sisters - I feel she underrates her achievement here. Also, while the story of her winning the role of Lincoln’s wife in Spielberg’s biopic is riveting, she could have told us so much about acting with Daniel Day Lewis under Spielberg ‘s direction. But this is an amazing fascinating read.

Excellent Read
Absolutely brilliant book, so candid and wonderfully written, I've always liked Sally as an actress and for her to allow the public into her private world is so brave. It's really interesting finding out how the movie industry works, although I didn't think the Directors Sofa was still an issue... This book is funny, frustrating, scary and sad, I was in floods of tears at the end, but I was soo glad that Sally and her Mum got to face the truth at the end of the book.

Very honest autobiography.
Very well-written and stunningly honest autobiography. Her life has certainly had its highs and lows but she tells her story without looking for sympathy. She's doesn't gloss over her mistakes and this makes the book all the more remarkable. Certain parts of the book had me in tears, other bits made me want to shout at her to get a grip. The end of the book and her reconciliation with her mother was particularly moving. Excellent book and highly recommended.

Boring and disappointing
Ms Field focuses too much on family problems and not enough on her career so to me the book was not interesting at all.

Read if you have nothing else available
What on earth had this woman to complain about?..her stupidity is all I could see.....she is a movie star..she had a loving family..beautiful homes..bad choices in men as is usual..three good sons..money in the bank...give me a break
