A great alternative to the expensive brand name
I’m a professor at a medical school and I’ve used Nalgene brand carboys for years in my laboratory. I purchased this because I wanted to see if it would be a less expensive alternative to the Nalgene brand. It is. Same material. Same gradations. Same spigot. Speaking of which: I always wrap a layer of PTFE plumber’s tape around the threads for the spigot. I’ve had to do that on the Nalgene brand, too. That seems to be a fact of life with carboys, but a layer of PTFE tape prevents leaks. I would definitely buy another.

Great item, just know it is SPIGOTLESS
Nothing special here, just quality roto-molding with good old chemical-resistant polypropylene. The only thing the buyer needs to be aware of, is that this Carboy neither has a threaded slot for a spigot, nor comes with a spigot apparatus. I knew this beforehand, as I checked the part number amazon provides (which is usually ALWAYS correct, even if the picture or the description isn't) with Bel-Art, the manufacturer of this product. Anyway, no spigot, no threads. Fine with me, thats what I wanted. Amazon just needs to CHANGE THE TITLE and DESCRIPTION of this product, so that it reflects the already correct picture and part number. The version of this Carboy with a spigot is available for around 90 bucks I believe (could be ~80 i don't know).

It does not affect the taste of the water we store in it.
This product is a bit expensive, but it does store distilled water safely without affecting the taste. It is easy to fill gallon bottles from its spigot.

I am pleased that the carboy is autoclavable
I am pleased that the carboy is autoclavable. I have autoclaved it two times using the cap while containing 4 liters of water with no problems. My only complaint is that when the spigot is in place there is a slow leak of approximately 200 ml per day. When the spigot is fully turned off it slips open slightly. I would recommend this product with some reservations.
