Easy to use, Excellent quality
It was Murphy's Law -- our digital camera died two days before our big vacation. I didn't have time to do a lot of research, I just needed another camera. The local camera stores were too pricey, and the staff at the big box stores were useless when it came to helping me select a camera. These are the times when I love Amazon. I was able to sort by price, read comments, and order with 1-day delivery. Our camera arrived less than 12 hours before our flight departed and I'm thrilled to say that the camera performed beautifully, right out of the box.Loved the "easy auto" settings, as well as the ability to switch to more manual-style controls to account for sunsets, water glare, overcast skies, etc. The only bad photos out of the batch were the ones when someone stepped into the frame! We're pretty camera-savvy, so I didn't install the software. Instead, we simply pop out the memory card and use the slot on our laptop to download photos. One note: I probably missed this in my haste, but since this camera comes with internal memory, the package does not include an SD card. Luckily for us, we had a 2 GB card from our deceased camera and were able to reformat it for the Nikon.Bottom line: a great value, excellent photos, easy to carry in a jeans pocket, and lightening-fast delivery thanks to Amazon! I'd definitely recommend this camera for a no-hassle vacation memory-maker.

Love this camera!
I purchased a digital camera prior to this one and after returning it because of all the problems and difficulties of trying to figure out how to operate it, I returned the camera for a refund. Went on Amazon.com to research and shop for another digital camera and found this one. Most reviews were postive so I ordered it. I LOVE this camera! The ease of use was delightful. I'm not very "ditigal" wise, but never had a problem figuring this one out after only briefly reading basic instructions. I was concerned about using AA batteries because some cameras eat them up. The Nikon Coolpix will operate on these batteries for a long time. Went on two week vacation, took tons of pics and never had to change the batteries. Great product at a great price. Thanks Amazon.

What's worse the camera or the company?
This camera operated properly for about two months. Then one day I started getting a battery error message. I couldn't do anything with the camera so I replaced the batteries with other new ones I had. The same problem, "battery exhausted" message would appear on the screen. The camera was completely unfunctional. I went and bought more batteries at the store, just to be sure it wasn't actually the batteries. The same error message. So now I have to go through the agravation to return the camera to Nikon Service Department. I packaged it up shipped it back to them and received my same camera back in about 2 weeks. I took it out the box, pushed the power button the camera immediately turned a solid color and the screen was locked. I couldn't power the camera off or on either. The only was to reboot it is to remove the batteries.I went the whole same scenario of trying different batteries and nothing worked. The screen would turn a solid color or I would get the same message, "battery exhausted" I just could get over the fact that the repair person, did not even bother to try to turn the camera on and see if it worked.I tried calling their customer no service number and of course I get someone who can barely speak english. I demanded to speak to a supervisor and they refuse to replace my camera with a new one. Maybe Nikon has good products and bad, but I'll never find out that is for sure. I would never buy anything from this company ever again.

It works fine for low-demand photography
I found this camera while looking for a decent point and shooter with a decent zoom and video function for less than $90. It works...Construction: It is small enough to carry in your trouser pocket, has a strap lever for a wrist strap. The USB outlet must have been designed by a lefty engineer, though, since the plastic cover has to be lifted and spun upward toward you very inconveniently.Zoom: The 3.5 zoom works fine in photo mode but a lot slower and has smaller zoom range in video mode.Manual exposure will take some getting used to. You get to adjust light exposure yourself, which helps in night photography (or when light isn't all that favorable).Color modes: come in color, vivid color, black & white, sepia.Photo: Shutter speed is on the slow side and the camera needs 2 seconds of processing before you can shoot again. The default mode has a loud shutter sound, but you can manually turn it off. Photo quality is pretty good and stands cropping well.Timer: only one mode with 10 seconds prep time for you to get in place before the camera shoots.Video mode: there's a clock shown on the screen when using the video mode telling you how much video time you have left. You can playback the video you just shot with sound. Switching between video and photo modes isn't as convenient, though, and takes at least a few seconds. The camera comes with Nikon uploader and editing program on a disc. I don't use it, though, since the Samsung photo editing program I already have on my computer works better. If you don't use the Nikon uploader you'll have to manually transfer the photos from the camera to the pc. Read the manual on it! I have to hook everything up and then restart the camera again for it to show up on 'my computer' window. Other than that, everything works fine.

Very Cool Coolpix
This little camera is amazing! It is very easy to use and very user-friendly. I haven't read the entire manual yet and each time I use it I find another valuable function. I just found out that you can zoom in on an existing picture and save it as another photo - truly amazing! The video portion is handy although I have not had the opportunity to use it just yet. The software is extremely user-friendly as well. It only uses 2 AA batteries and they last for quite a while. A very good buy and a great little camera.
