A decent read
A good read but a bit of a ridiculous ending (our hero breaks into the Kremlin! Really??). Shame, as it was shaping into a great story

Intriguing, fast paced thriller
Loved this book from start to finish. Saul Herzog is right up there with the best authers of this genre

Fast paced spy thriller
A fast paced, action packed thriller with a plausible plot line, albeit some imagination stretching escapes for the good guys from tight scrapes. The thing I enjoyed most were the characters with their own flawed personalities that ultimately highlight the point that no matter whose side you are in in a war, much of its destiny is dictated by the actions and motivation of the human that is waging it.

Gripping story....loved it. Up there with the best of them.
There were a large number of pages in this book and I was hooked by every one of them....a great read from a new author....his first book of seven novels and because of the pleasure I got from this first novel I ordered the other four books in the series so I'll wait patiently for book six and seven to appear. This author is, in my opinion, up there with the best of them, authors who deal in spy/action stories so I've added him to my very select list of authors who know how to write engaging stories and keep you interested with each turn of the page to the point where going to bed is a chore, unless you're already in bed reading the book but sleep is the last thing you want to do. Makes you wish you had started reading it much earlier than you did as you don't want to put it down. Highly recommended, glad to have found you Saul.

Loved it!
I don’t often write reviews but this was the first book I’ve read by Saul and I was engrossed from the start. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars is because of the ending. I’d stayed up until gone midnight to find out what happened at the end only to be left hanging a little too much. It’s hard to write without leaving a spoiler so I won’t say any more... I’ll have to buy the next book!

Get drawn in!
Felt a bit unsure at begining with the setting up but was soon engrossed and unable to put down; much to the frustration of my wife!

Wow - what a rollercoaster of a novel!
I love thrillers and when I finished the latest Mitch Rapp instalment Amazon suggested Saul Herzog's first novel as my next read. I downloaded a free Kindle sample and was hooked within a few pages.Saul writes with an engaging free style. His characters are credible and he has such a talent for dialogue too. I particularly like the way he introduces the reader to a location or an event or a new character by starting with a seemingly insignificant detail and, as if in a film, pulling the camera back, allowing the viewer (reader) to take in the bigger picture before focusing on the new character in their context. The novel's plot is clever and well researched - I learned a lot of fascinating facts about history, Cold War politics, Paleontology and more but never felt the author was preaching to me. The novel is very accessible - I recommend you give it a go! I'm so pleased I discovered this book and can't wait to see how the story develops in the next instalment.

Brilliant plots and characters
I was looking for a change from police procedural novels and came across The Asset as recommended reading, so gave it a try. Absolutely brilliant, I have since read books 2 to 4 and ordered book 5. The plots and plot twists are so well thought out and characters are developed as the series of books progresses , you get totally drawn in to the main characters - the assassin (Spector) trying to leave his past behind but always getting drawn back in, the defecting Russian agent (Tatyana), the black ops handler (Laurel), and black ops head (Roth). This is Bourne/Reacher/Bond drawn together.Great writing by Saul Herzog, looking forward to book 5
