Surprisingly excellent speaker with great dynamics. Needs a solid amp to drive it properly
Have owned SO many compact speakers over the decades, and these are some of the very finest. I also own and listen to the wonderful KEF Ls50 meta speakers, which have few peers. After the first months, I thought the KEFs would satisfy my needs, but they do have a weakness. They do nothing wrong, really, but they lack dynamics and on some music that becomes critical. Compared to the Ls50s, the L100s have better bass and dynamics, even though they are about the same size and have the same size mid woofer. Sterophile reviewed the L100 and said they will need an amplifier that is able to supply power to loads less than 4ohms and this is true. I use an amp that runs in class AB and can supply about 150 w into 4 ohms. which is plenty in my small room. I have read some reviews that say the L100 can sound a bit bright in the treble, but I have not found that to be a problem here, although they have a little more on top than the KEF. I have 2 systems set up all the time and go back and forth depending on the recording, but now that the L100s have been here about 6mo. I notice that 75% of the time it is the Polk pair that is being played.

You cannot imagine how nice these are. SACRIFICE SOMETHING TO BUY THEM.
No matter how poor you are, these are worth their weight in gold. If you are considering end-game trophy speakers, these are DEFINATELY, ABSOLUTELY worthy of the blood, sweat, and tears you've put in to earning your living. If music is extremely important to you, I promise you the search is finally over. Singular in quality, collector's edition level fit and finish, superb craftsmanship and subtle aesthetics, the cabinetry the baffles, the magnetic dust covers, it's all an accurate claim to the level of sound quality these engineering marvels boast. I am not exaggerating. I am completely flabbergasted and confused by the bass. I thought even POLK had succumbed to the temptation to push gimmicks after all these years, but the internal cabinet compartment designs, the bass port technology and all that, it's all REAL. I've never heard bass like this from such a small footprint. It's so deep, accurate, smooth, and balanced. I just can't believe my ears. When I hooked these up, I couldn't do anything else for about 5 hours straight. It's like real acoustic guitars and singers are quite literally standing right in front of you in real life. Anyway, get a pair while you can or you will deserve to hate yourself later :D

Legend Series has more detail than Reserve Series
The reviews are true the L100 has better clarity and detail than the R200. I have both and this is what my ears tell me. Great bookshelf speaker and definitely sound best with a subwoofer.

L100 Top notch Speakers
Purchased the L100's to upgrade from my Polk Rti4 rear surrounds. I am using Polk LSiM 703's as fronts and 704 as center with vintage small Boston's as height spekers along with 2 HSU subs. The L100's sound great right out of the box and broke in much quicker than the 703's did. The ring tweeter Polk uses can sound a bit "tinny", "raspy" or "harsh" during initial break in but this dissipated quickly. After approx 15-20 hrs break in (for my ears and the speakers lol) these have outstanding sound quality. I hooked one the RTi4's back up for comparison and while I fully expected the highs to be better with the L100's what was more impressive was the range and details of the midrange with these. My wife is not an audiophile by any means and she could immediately tell the positive difference between the two. Bottom line, a very good set of speakers worth beyond what I paid for them. At full retail would I purchase them again? Maybe not... at anything less than $750 I would put them up against anything and yes I definitely would purchase again in a heartbeat. Side note- these are 4ohm speakers but if you have a good AVR do not switch the setting to 4ohm as that setting is purely to pass UL heat testing. If you have a good AVR pushing over 100w these should be fine even though they will take more power to drive. Mine integrated well with my overall system right out of box with just minor adjustments

My perfect speakers…
These speakers sound amazing to me. I had bought and returned KEF Q150s, Polk ES15s, and Klipsch RP-500MIIs, looking for a particular sound that I find engaging. The Polk L100s were going to be my last attempt at finding some new speakers and I couldn’t believe the price on them. I did a ton of research for days on end and I never saw one bad review on these like you often see on any set of speakers. Right out of the box these things had the exact sound I had been chasing. I’m so glad I took a chance on these. I strongly encourage anyone who might be on the fence to buy them immediately!
