FIRST COMES SCANDAL: A BRIDGERTON PREQUEL (NETFLIX TIE-IN) (The Rokesbys)

A Sweet Adorable Historical Romance Emerging From a Marriage of Convenience <3
(I voluntarily reviewed an eARC of the book on For The Love of Fictional Worlds)First Comes Scandal becomes my introduction to the Bridgerton world – and it is honestly a very cute and adorable one!Georgiana Bridgerton is ruined – and honestly through no fault of her own, to be honest; a man kidnaps her with the sole purpose of forcing her into marriage – a man whose name I won’t even deign to mention; because he doesn’t even deserve the courtesy – she rescues herself and yet she is the one who has to pay the price of being kidnapped by being forced to marry to protect her “reputation”.To be fair though, neither her parents nor her brother are the villainous types – they have supported her throughput the ordeal; but even their hands are shackled by the rules of thee society.Enter Nicholas Rokesby – he is studying to be a doctor when he is urgently summoned by his father home in the middle of his exams – he has no idea what fate awaits him; but the last thing he expects his father ordering him to offer for Georgina’s hand in marriage, because of the recent turn of events. He might not want to at first; but he is an honourable man; so he does because he knows it is the right thing to do. What he doesn’t expect is the simple straight “No” delivered to his proposal! What I loved is that Georgie and Nicholas already had the foundation of a childhood friendship guiding them; but it was more delightful to see them discover tidbits about each other that they hadn’t expected to be charmed or enamored with! There is not a whole lot of drama in this one; but what it does have is adventure – adventure of finding a partner who surprises you at each turn, of finding a partner more than a spouse in your life but most of all finding the pleasure of true love you didn’t even expect in your life!

Disappointed
Seemed like a short story rather than a novel. Needed more substance. Very unlike Julia Quinn’s other novels. Not worth the money spent.

Book Review
One of the most boring book I've read in my entire life

Great fun to read
I loved how this story had serious parts, but also had some laugh-out-loud parts. The cat and the tree and then the cat on the carriage ride to Edinburgh were great additional scenes. I could totally see both happening. And the care that the butlers both had for Georgia and Nicholas was great to see as well. Georgia is a very bright, independent young lady who is unfairly put into a scandal. I am sure that this happened often, due to the strict mores of the times. Nicholas is studying to become a doctor when his father calls him home urgently, but with no more information! The way that both of them reacted was very believable and understandable. However, both of them always showed a level of respect and caring for the other that was just wonderful to see. I was sucked into this story and did not want to put it down, even when I had to go to bed to get ready for work in the morning! There is a fast pace, but it doesn't seem pressing, if you know what I mean. The tone is positive and the storyline is character oriented with some bits of action and some steamy scenes. The characters are vibrant and endearing. You just want to be around them and see them do well. You don't have to read the other Bridgerton prequels, but you do see some of those main characters in here. All in all, this is a totally delightful historical romance to read, in my opinion. Reading is my escape, and I had to go back right after I finished the book to re-read certain parts of it over again! I enjoyed it that much! This will go on my re-read pile! Enjoy!

Sweet and endearing book
The book is very sweet and partially naive, it does not solve mysteries or serious conflicts. It resolves around mundane (for us) but quite life changing events for the heroes. It is apparent from the book description how it will end but nonetheless it is still enjoyable to watch kind and likable character to fall in love. It is the second book in the romance novel genre where a main character was a virgin on his wedding night (the first one is Outlander) and it was very sweet. I am so tired of arrogant womanizers who had dozens of ladies and knows it all. Nick is also a very responsible individual who tries to fulfill his duty as a future doctor and it only added strength to the character without him having to win fights or duels. This book also gives a perspective on opportunities in life and career that girls faced in 18th centuries and how dependent on men women were back then in a good and in a bad way. How whim of one fool could destroy a life of an innocent girl. It was very sad and astonishing.I was glad to see old characters that I missed, Billie and Violet, who I absolutely adore. The book won't make you cleverer or more educated. But it will fill your evening with romance, slow love that comes from friendship and mutual respect, laughter and smiles. It can also help you to become more emotionally intelligent in a way. I would recommend this book if you are looking for something light and sweet that would make you feel at peace

Altes Sprichwort
