We like it we don't have anything bad at the moment to say about it five stars
We like it we don't have anything bad at the moment to say about it five stars. 1. Ear pads and head pads are leather and thicker A lot more cushion than the stock ones 2. The plastic side caps have rubber on them where the stock ones do not, astro said this helps to reflect the sound differently making it more of a close system also 3. The boom mic has different Parts/upgraded in the mic than the stock one, it is a little longer and you can bend it in front of your mouth more than the shorter one We read a lot of reviews there was a real mixup and many recommended not buying it but we went ahead and bought it and we like it that's our experience with it and how we feel After we use it a while will update, so far 100 % we like these and they are better than the stock ones, way way more comfortable 1000%, we would recommend these 100% to anybody, bouncing your head around and excited when playing video games the mic can fall down little bit, wearing it casual just playing the game we've had no problems, stock Mic is a little shorter and doesn't have as much Pull so if you want to rock your head around a lot or jump up and down you might want to use the stock mic. Use the mic they came with the mod kit and we like it a lot. After using this for a little while in no way are they less they are way better than the stock ones absolutely, when reading some of the other reviews they talk about the sound and other aspects that they're not that good we use these and we have the latest headset it improved it, {{{you can't hear the sound outside as much and it's definitely thousands of percent Way more comfortable, and the mic works great.}}} Is the mod kit worth the price yes, I know things are a little expensive today but this money is well spent and really makes a big difference on the headset hope this helps others, Thanks for making the headset mod kit for a40 tr, to the company and people that work there, Astro.

Passive noise cancelling is surprisingly good - Wife seal of disapproval.
Not really an "upgrade", but a side-grade. The Astro A40 TR's ship with open earpads and earplates. This basically means you can hear your IRL surroundings almost like you're not wearing headphones at all. That may seem undesirable at first, but there are positives to that design. Far less ear fatigue with air reaching your ears regularly, and a more open sound stage give you a bit better depth to measuring enemy distances. This comes at the expensive of less bass and the possibility of background noise like city traffic interrupting your immersion. These faux leather eapads that come with the Mod Kit, as well as the headphone plate do an exceptional job of sealing the headphone to my ears. I can actually feel the air pressure as I put on the headphones. It strongly muffles passive sounds, like traffic, running water, or a fan. You will have trouble hearing family, wives and anyone else who demands your attention. Depending on your situation, that may or may not be a good thing ;). Because of the air seal, low frequency sounds are much more prominent and your EQ presets may need to be adjusted to avoid too much boomy bass. There are negatives to the pads as well. They cause ear fatigue, as they get warm after an hour of play. And I have more noticeable trouble interpreting distance of sounds, even with Dolby Surround Sound enabled. In short, make a preset with less bass for the these pads, and have a preset with more bass for your original pads. Don't throw your old pads, mic out. Keep them stored away because these are situational accessories. Astro's magnet locks for their earpads and plate are excellent, and switching out these accessories is super easy (the headband cushion is a little tougher, take your time). This is a pricey accessory, but you will not be disappointed with how well it drowns out the world and puts you in the game completely.

A Terrific Modkit!
So far I am very pleased with this modkit, even though I just received it. The process of swapping out the earcups/ear cushions, microphone, speaker tags, and even the headband, is INCREDIBLY easy. I was under the impression that the headband would be an absolute pain to remove, but it was so simple. Just follow the diagram on the box, and you'll swap everything in and out in under a minute. Admittedly the next thing that also concerned me the most, apart from the headband, was the microphone. Many people have said that the mic falls down way too easily, and I can say that it does fall down easier than the stock mic. However! Unless you are moving your head in an extreme motion from left to right, for example, then the mic will pretty much stay where you have it placed. Also it is worth noting that the material used for the headband, and earcups, is super soft. If you go by the pictures, the "leather" might seem uncomfortable, but that is certainly not the case. The noise isolation would be the main reason why you are getting this headset though, everything else aside. For me the noise isolation is not as aggressive as I thought it would be, but you can definitely hear less background noise with a noticeable increase in bass. Ultimately I think this modkit is worth $60, seeing as how you would normally have to buy a second pair of headsets/headphones if you wanted a closed back option after settling on an open back one.

Great upgrade!
I'll keep it simple and to the point... Aesthetically: they look much better in person than in any picture. Microphone: better quality, easier at getting your voice and eliminating background noise. It's one inch longer than the stock mic so it lands closer to the front of your mouth. It's also heavier so if you tend to move your head a lot it might need to be adjusted at times. Ear cups & headband: very plush and comfortable. Do a great job at isolating the outside noise which should help with immersion. On the same note, others around you should be happier as they also diminish game audio from leaking outside of your headset. However, they make the headset feel heavier, somewhat more compressed and because they are leather they can get a little hot around the ear but they are still comfortable and should be able to wear for hours. Headband is comfortable but a bit of a pain to swap out. Speaker plates: They're held with magnets (like the original A40's) so they're very easy to swap. Audio quality won't change but they really do change the feel of the audio. So this depends on what you prefer, "open back" (audio will feel like it has more distance/space to distribute in) or "closed back" (audio will feel more closed in. more in your head so to speak)

Very good product but difficult to justify the price if your gaming situation doesn't call for noise cancellation.
They're overall a very god product. The earcups do a marvelous job of passive noise cancellation, the mic, although a bit inconsistent in the way it delivers audio (friends said sometimes I would cut out and whatnot), There was a noticeable improvement in the clarity of my voice. This isn't a necessary upgrade, nor is it a cheap one. At 60 bucks I really hesitated on whether or not I should invest in these as i live with a roommate so it'd be nice to be able to seal myself away from outside noise. If it wasn't for living with someone else in a shared room, I wouldn't have thought at all about purchasing these, as great as they are, it's difficult to justify the $60 price tag. I really can't say this enough, if you can enjoy your Astros in a quieter setting (your room) where outside noise doesn't become a problem while playing, don't buy these. This modkit is meant for loud outside noise such as tournament settings or, in my case, living with someone who consistently plays music on their BT speakers. The sound signature is altered slightly, boomier bass as well as a more "in-your-head" feel to the audio. For games where hearing the finer audio details is a big part of the game, such as R6: Siege, it becomes a tad bit more difficult to identify where footsteps are coming from and from how far away they are. The clarity of the audio itself is still there, but because of the seal created by the speaker tags and the earcups the bass is boomier and can interfere with the smaller audio bits that can normally be picked up with the stock kit. Overall, a great product, I really am glad I picked mine up, but it isn't necessary and I wouldn't recommend anyone buy them if they already game in a quieter setting, they just don't warrant a $60 price tag.

AMAZING - MUST READ!!!
Hey, Hello, did my Headline get your interest? Well good, as you are here now anyway, why not stay a while and read this review? I can promise you something here and now today. When you have finished reading this review. You will have learned 3 new things. Stay with me for this, ok? Here we go: Now, without further ado, straight to the review: Today: ASTRO Gaming A40 TR Mod Kit Well now finally here is a topic where I actually do know things about: Gaming Headsets. I am not a big COD or more precisely FPS gaming fan. But my buddies John and Kevin totally wanted to play the new COD WW2 all the time. So ok, I guess now I am playing FPS games. I had a Turtle Beach Elite for a long while now but it seemed kinda meh for COD. The sound was a little hollow and I was not a 100% happy with it. As I am really bad at FPS games I needed to upgrade my gaming accessories to at least have the slightest chance of doing anything helpful. So I went out and read a few reviews and everybody said the ASTROs were really good. Now I am not a great fan of wireless headphones so I decided to go with the A40 and not the A50s. That I would get the MixAmp with the Headphones was a given. As I said, I need all the help I can get. The sound was really good, but not like AMAZING. So back to Google I went. Was I doing something wrong? Turns out, there is a ProGaming Equipment Upgrade set for the ASTROS. Ok, I thought, lets see if that does the trick. I cant tell you how big the difference is. its the WORLD. Sound is great. Deep Base, you can hear all the steps, clear sound. Definitely get these and all the upgrade packs. Only issue now: I am still bad at COD. So I guess its still kinda about skill. At least now I can hear myself better while playing really bad. Better than nothing As I promised you will learn 3 new things today, first the product review, and here are 2 amazing facts more: - Every Year on August 5th, the Mars Curiosity Rover celebrates the anniversary of its arrival by singing the Happy Birthday Song. To Itself. All alone. On Mars. - Queen Cleopatra was alive closer to the invention of the IPHONE than the construction of the Great Pyramid. Think about that... "Reviewing a better world. Night and day difference
This product is insane. At first I was very skeptical because the cups and things that came on my astros were very nice but not sound proof at all. I was very scared this would be the same way. Thankfully this was everything I could've hoped for. They're extremely noise cancelling and so easy to put on and take off I would definitely buy them again if I ever have to. Sound very rarely leaks through these and overall makes it better gaming experience. I personally don't use the mic that came with the set because it is too long for me but I have tested it and been told it sounds the same if not better than the original mic. The one downside I have to this is that I wish it came in a better variety of colors, maybe solid colors like purple instead of the gaming skins, but the Halo ones look absolutely stunning on my white a40s. I use these everyday and they are very comfortable. Overall - I'm very pleased with this product and will definitely buy again if anything happens to them. Definitely worth the price.

King Astro!

If you're sat on the fence, do it.
I got this as a bit of a treat to myself as I've always wanted one since I saw that they were a thing, I just never justified the price! Having bought them though, I wish I had bit the bullet sooner! The astro a40trs are arguably the best headphones you can get, but these take them a step further, the noise cancellation is great now! (Not that it was bad before) I noticed the side bits have a rubber seal now, and with the inner pieces being leather make the NC so much better. I got so lost in a game the other day that I didn't notice somebody come into my room and start talking for a good few minutes! Haha. I was more immersed in the game than I've ever been! I haven't tested the microphone in a party yet, but it is a little bit larger than the original, it naturally sits further from your face. Which I believe will be better in the long run, as I occasionally caught myself breathing into the old one haha! Very comfortable fit too, they also don't seem to be slipping off my head as much as they used to either! Overall, happy with my purchase, would recommend and like I say, generally improves immersion! I put a red mod kit onto my white headset, at first I thought it looked weird, but now it's grown on me and I think it looks a lot better than before!

Far Surpassed Expectations
For functionality, style, and comfort, it is far better than I expected. The mod kit fixes the two issues I had with the headset: 1) noise cancelling and 2) comfort. The default kit hurt the top of my head, and outside noise would interfere with hearing audio queues in games. Obviously, it's not perfect, but it is a HUGE improvement. I was on the fence for a long time, but I'm so glad I pulled the trigger.
