Regular guy goes down in history Written with Love
We started with Mike when I was Rasputin Soul and Jazz Store in Berkeley, CA. . We checked out all the jazz-rock that came out, ‘cuz there were so many excellent musicians coming out., none greater than Michael Brecker. The first time we needle-dropped Who is this!,”when he and Randy dropped the first Arista. The rest is history to those reading reviews.Millkowski, here in 2021, drops ANOTHER MASTERSTROKE. with insanely great research and total love in his language, while maintaining great perspective. You will love his remarkable balance of mood, with lots of time with Mike’s pals, the cream of the crop and new friends, and Mike’s bro Randy. Mike was such a rare human being that was cut down way, way too soon by the horror of a stem cell transplant and Leukemia. Mike’s wife Susan shares Mike’s feelings about his life, and his high-profile gigs. It’s all here!Essential for fans.

to be read imperatively
I've been listening to Michael Brecker for 40 years and I thought I knew his music. This book showed me the opposite! it's like going to a museum with a guide: you don't see the works in the same way. It took me a while to read it, because I listened to the albums mentioned in the book at the same time and in chronological order: what a "rediscovery"! His stylistic evolution, his musical orientations, everything seems clearer to me!And finally, a "confirmed" certainty: beyond being an "out of the ordinary" saxophonist, he is above all a "humanly out of the ordinary" person!Thank you to the author of this fantastic biography, which did me a lot of good:

Fascinating Insight
As a Michael Brecker fan for most of my life this book dug down into his amazing career with fascinating insight. The personal details about his life and that of his musical colleagues are frank (and not always pretty) but do help to construct a picture of life on the road for a major artist. A fabulous read!
