Review: Must Have - One of my absolute childhood (1984 if that helps) favorites 😍 No new version of this movie can replace this one!! Review: Great children movie - It's a fun movie for kids. I loved it as a kid and so do my children. I did not like the remake. Too bad they take a great movie and remake it. The DVD is great, no regrets. As far as it bombing in the box office, I suspect that one of he reason is that the meat eaters that are so called "animal lovers" did not like being reminded that they are hypocrites! I have seen very badly done children's movies with very bad acting and scripts that got better reviews than this, but they did not offend the Meat growers or cow and pig killers. Even meat eaters do not like to be reminded that that steak or coat was someone's mother or brother! How many people would eat steak, chicken, pig or lamb if they had to go out slit it's throat, skin it and then cook it! Not many. But a piece of meat has no identity! So it no doubt made lots of people mad. Yes, by the way I have been a vegetarian most of my life (my first day on my own), and Dr Doolittle was part of my motivation. I tell kids that ask "Animals are my friends and I do not eat my friends". Most kids understand that, most adults just give me a bad look. The effects were very good for the day and even now. The story was good thought not what a meat eater and animal killer would like. I was a children's movie. I have it on DVD and still enjoy it. The remake had no guts. If you could understand and talk to animals like the new movies would you eat "your friends". No but that was not mentioned in the new movies. No guts they did not want to offend the beef industry!

Make yourself happy with this Movie
This is one of my favorites when I ' m not feeling well. This is one that will put a smile on your face and the songs are catchy as well. The fact that he learns the animals way of speaking is just one of those amazing things that no one thinks to do anymore.

Fans of Rex Harrison will love this, great value hidef blueray musical.
Great bluray transfer of a film that is immensely enjoyable. Sure it's escapist fantasy: but just ticket for the right mood. Never to be repeated lush production values, great music and lots of empathy. Never mind the negative reviews and troubled production. A lush Todd-Ao musical filmed onto Eastman color negative, for extremely clear wonderful photography, amzing locations and wonderful animal acting. Difficult to make, and yet for me as a more mature person; great escapist high quality entertainment and beautiful sings and music. Never mind the trials and tribulations of making it and the business failure. For any future generations, even hundreds of years into the future, it is a tonic from our fast paced troubled world. Complete with lavish production values, great buddy characters, (and even replete with some prejudices), this is a beautiful example of movie making at it's best. Take it or leave it, this is a wonderful movie!

Man wird bemerken, wie viele Evergreens (When I Look into your Eyes, Beautiful Things, Fabelous Places, At the Crossroads,... (Nebenbei - H. Juhnke spielte und sang in den 1960er Jahren im Theater A. Newley's Part in der deutschen Version des Musicals "Stop the World, I want to get off").
