Captured: A Sci-Fi Alien Invasion Romance (Garrison Earth Book 1)
S**.
WOW WHAT A START TO A NEW SERIES!!!
I am in complete awe of this book. It didn’t pop up on my “net to read” lists, which is weird because all I’ve read in the last 9 months it seems like is sci-fi romance. I was completely out of new options and just kept pushing the next buttons on my lists when this popped up. I was in need of my next fix something bad so I settled with this. SETTLE, the word I used, “SETTLE” is so absolutely wrong to label this book as. This book was not only out of this world (haha punny) it was PHENOMENAL! My lord, this book took me in, captured my every sense and attention, wound me up, and spit me out on fire! Although, spit me out isn’t exactly correct because one doesn’t just get spit out of a exhilarating journey, and this is what this book was- A JOURNEY. While I do love my 173 page, new series book a month sci-fi romances, they are an adventure with a big bang and sweet ending- which is why we keep going back to them, because we love and crave them, but this book was so much more. It was a journey through two souls lives.Eden was one of our usual abducted pissed off female humans, although she wasn’t abducted in the alien sense because she wasn’t traditionally abducted. Earth has been invaded by our LOOOONG ANCIENT better halves. Women are taken and set to be matched with their soulmates. She is of course pissed because 1- invasion and 2- choices are taken away. No I will say her stubbornness to finally give in did annoy me, but to be fair (TO BE FAIRRRR... letterkenny) these characters always annoy me if it takes more than 1/2 the book to get over themselves. But I liked her despite this personal flaw I find. She was a GREAT CHARACTER. She was hard, but we find she is also soft. She is for lack of a better word- REAL. And this endured her to me.Torin was a normal alpha male in the beginning, the kind we all go into the book expecting. He was strong, very independent, dark, and broody. We see his struggles right away from the moment Eden and his worlds collide. He is at first the definition of alpha jerk, but then... the unexpected happens. This jerk, may not really be a jerk after all. His character BLEW MY MIND AWAY. There is a transformation here. As was with Eden, his character was so REAL. I feel as if I could have a normal everyday interaction with this male and not realize he was a character from a book. Amazing.Overall this book is probably going to be one of my best read of the year, and that’s saying something. To the author, BRAVO. This book was not a cliche alien alpha romance, this book was so much more. READ THIS BOOK- DO NOT HESITATE- you would only be denying yourself of it’s pleasure if you did.

More realistic than other sci fi romances
Like other readers have said, the first half of the book had some great, unique world building for this genre. The pacing was steady and I was sucked into the story. The second half focused more on character development and the relationship between Torin and Eden. The plot stalled a bit as they tried to come to terms with one another. For those who may have triggers, there was a scene I would call dubious consent, due to the circumstances. However, it was a believable outcome within the scenario and contributed to the readers understanding of the nature of their relationshipOverall I liked the book and it held my interest until the end.

Captured
Great moving story with a lot of anguish and growth for all characters. Hard to read in some places very painful but a really god story.

I couldn't put it down!
This book hooked me. The dialogue is engaging. The author builds strong, flawed characters that respond believably to all the hurdles they encounter. I experienced so many extreme emotions throughout their journey. Its definitely worth the read. Just make sure you start reading on your day off, because you won't want to put this one down!

Started out stronger than any invasion romance I've ever read
The first 45% of this book was incredible. A h who put herself and humans first, a believable lack of communication between species, and strong characters. Then, the cliche ultimatum, the jump ahead in time until the h and H could tolerate each other and then more time jumps, and shocking scenes that felt conveniently timed.I didn't hate it, but I hoped for so much more. There are a lot of weird grammar issues and weird sentence endings. Inappropriate "an" instead of "a", the wrong word or missing words, etc. It's distracting because much of the writing in the book is extremely high caliber. Top author pros and imagery. Then, this weird grammar happens and destroys the illusion. Now I have to decide if I want to read the next book. The H was wimpy and pushy during this book, and based on the synopsis of the next few books, I think they're going to get darker than I want, or think this author can believably pull off to a romance novel positive conclusion. This series might be too gritty for me to actually like.So beware, the back 60% isn't as good as the first 40%, and you may not like where this series is headed. I recommend reading the synopsis of the other books in the series before you commit to this one. The gritty realism may cause the subject matter in the next few books to not be the escapism we usually want in a romance novel.

Best Sci-Fi Romance I Have Read In A Long Time
Whoa - What a read! Great characters and world building created a really entertaining story. It did somewhat lag in the middle, and the FMC was someone annoying. Otherwise a pretty stellar read (pun intended 🙃).

So satisfying!
The star was rough... alien invasion and desperate times for earth women. But the story is woven with deft skill and caring, despite the violence of capture and imprisonment. Love is slowly born and grown under hard circumstances. So terrific to see both male and female lead characters grow and open their hearts-- to begin a whole new culture as well as a whole new way of life! Highly recommend it!

Gripping
Not what I expected- but still so satisfying.I had read the concubine series by this author and while understanding this series would be a bit darker, I wrongly assumed to expect the same humour and romance. Instead, I found a gritty alien-human romance that bordered on dark. This alien invasion that conquers earth to claim mates and save an all-male race from extinction is fraught with angst. Our human heroine is strong and her fated alien commander is woefully inexperienced with all matters of the heart. Their relationship begins on the rockiest of starts but develops into an epic love that leads to change for an entire empire.Definitely recommend!

„Adapt and adjust meant shit if I refused to accept that nothing would ever be the same again.“
Captured is less funny or sarcastic than the introduction, but really good in all areas.Unstoppable and a return to the good old days unimaginable - face the changesWe have a very strong-willed heroine with a big heart, who gets to the real top when she encounters resistance and injustice. Her willingness to compromise is fascinating and her pragmatism encourages us to think ahead. The sinister hero has to go a hard long way of his own experience and really has a hell of a lot of first times, but he develops credibly and his devoted nature makes the reader sigh out loud in reality more than once. The story is really well developed, varied and I didn't find any dry spells. Important and interesting areas of an invasion or takeover are sufficiently sketched, for the story and characters crucial points are worked out brilliantly. It may be tough in some parts, but that's what gives it credibility and is what makes this wonderful overall package so captivating. The author is new to me, but her style, the development of the world and her art of conveying all this gives me the conviction that not only do I want to read Book #2 Matched afterwards, but also that I will definitely test the Clan of the Woodlands series.Really good Sci-Fi entertainment at Garrison Earth 🌍 and a reading recommendation.

Surprisingly good
CW: rape/non-con, coercion, drug use, mentions of forced prostitutionI enjoyed this book. I liked the atmosphere the writing evoked. The main female character is tough and resilient, while the main male character is tough and cold hearted. They each grow and learn as the book goes along. They each face different problems and it was interesting to see how they managed them. The world changes after an invasion and this story tells it from both perspectives. There are a number of typos throughout but they weren’t enough to detract from the story.
