Great book.
Technically, the photos here are great. Lots of them are in color which is great considering that there aren't lots of pictures from this scene out of the black and white realm.Personally, I find quite interesting that there are pictures here of several artists from different disciplines together, which talks a lot about the relationship they had. That interaction could be appreciated in the works of them, but here is evident that they were in the same spots. The printing is superb and, again, the pictures I liked a lot.

More uninformative photos from early days of the Beats. ...
More uninformative photos from early days of the Beats. There are too many books of this sort with little or no insight into the people in the pictures!

Amazing image study of the beat scene during 1957 to 1960!
The Beat Scene only got better the more I kept looking through it. Not only does it begin with an essay by Jack Kerouac, it continues as a visual diary showing who was there and what was happening in New York and San Francisco during 1957 to 1960. It includes captions with many of the photographs (all shot by Burt Glinn) and also has a thorough index in the back indicating who is in the photo. This is a great book for any bohemian, writer, artist, fashion stylist and music lover.

You will dig it!
This book is a fabulous glimpse into the world of the beats - Glinn is such a wonderful photographer, and to see the photos in color brings the time and the people into startling "live" focus. The treasure trove of many never-before-seen pictures is captivating and made me wish (again, as I have before) that I had known and partied with them. But this is the next best thing.
