Fleur de Sel
I love to cook and am a big believer in the use of salt to enhance flavor. I typically cook with kosher salt, so was excited to try this Fleur de Sel. This is not a salt you cook with. I read somewhere that Fleur de Sel is the most expensive salt in the world because of the way it is harvested. The flavor and texture of this salt work best when you consider it a garnish or finishing touch for your dishes. What makes Fluer de Sel different from your everyday table salt, kosher salt, or sea salt? The way fleur de sel is formed (a thin, delicate crust on the surface of the water) and harvested (by hand in small batches) gives it flakes of varying sizes. It contains other minerals specific to the location it was harvested and these minerals are what gives the salt its particular flavor. Fleur de sel also naturally has a higher moisture content than other salts, so the flakes don't dissolve as quickly on food or on your tongue. This helps contribute to the crunchiness of the salt and makes your taste buds perceive it as more salty. My favorite use so far for fleur de sel is on caprese salad -- slices of fresh tomato topped with sliced buffalo mozzarella, fresh basil, and a drizzle of olive oil. Fresh ground pepper, fleur de sel -- heavenly! The crunch of the salt is amazing on this dish. It's also very nice for a finishing touch on vegetables, meats, and eggs. Very tasty and worthy of a spot in your spice cabinet.

Delicious flaky salt from France.
The McCormick Gourmet Global Selects Fleur De Sel from Gurande, 2.64 oz arrived and I immediately put it on the dining room table and have been using it for about a week. This is a flaky salt that can’t be sprinkled from a salt shaker, but instead some of the salt is carefully shaken onto the palm of my hand. I then carefully use my index finger to move some salt from my palm to food like small roasted potatoes. This salt enhances the flavor of the potatoes. Just as the add says, the Fleur de Sel gives a bit of flaky crunch to the potatoes and it has a light and delicious special flavor the manufacturers call briny. We are told that this salt is harvested from the marshes of southern France. I called attention to my use of the salt with small baked potatoes, but I have also used it on fish and other vegetables like asparagus. I look forward this summer to sprinkling some of this salt on watermelon!Bottom line: This tasty salt from France adds delicious crunchy flavor to many foods. Recommended

Délicieux
This past year I became curious about what all the fuss is about different variety of salts. I grew up with a limited experience of regular table salt and I became curious about the different varieties of salt that seem very popular. Fleur de sel has been one of the most interesting ones to experiment with so far. The salt taste is very delicate but you only need a very small amount to have a big impact. I don't suggest cooking with it - it is a bit too delicate for that - but rather use it to sprinkle onto special dishes to make them pop and give a delicate flavor or salt with a little bit of crunchy texture. I suggest taking a pinch of salt between your fingers to gently break up the salt crystals as you sprinkle it onto the food, rather than using a spoon or shaking it over the food. It is delicious on fresh vegetables or as a finishing touch for meat. It will add something that you don't get with regular table salt.

Delicate and crunchy
This Fleur de Sel tastes nice and salty, without being overwhelming. It makes a very good finishing salt and adds a nice crunch to a dish. It is very similar to kosher salt or sea salt. The flakes are a little more varied in size than kosher salt is, with some finer flakes mixed with the larger flakes, and it is slightly less salty than my kosher salt is. This comes in a fancy glass jar with a metal lid, it looks very nice but it does not have a shaker top so you have to pick it out of the jar. This isn't too difficult when the jar is full, but it becomes a bit of a challenge when the jar gets low. I like having a variety of salts to use for different foods and this Fleur de Sel is going to be my go to for deserts that I want a bit of finishing salt on top of (caramels and chocolates). The milder flavor and mixed texture with the fine crystals lends itself particularly well to pairing with a sweet flavor without overwhelming it. For dry rubs and vegetables I will probably stick to kosher salt.
