The entire bottom is covered with a solid piece of rubber-like material (for those allergic to rubber). It is safe on any surface and is black, so blends nicely with the metal. Could have multiple storage use's around the house.

I did not buy the soap dish but did purchase the drinking cup. My opinion is that it is a chocolate to bronze color. The cup is very sturdy and beautiful.
