The bowl that sings - Singing bowls. These bowls are commonly called as Tibetan Singing Bowls, gong bowls, or rin gongs. Some call them as Himalayan bowls or suzu gongs. In all the meanings a singing bowl or a gong is a metal object that produces a particular type of sound. So these singing bowls can also be called as singing bells or bell bowls. They are not bells that are hanged outside the temples but are bowls that are placed on a base, say ground or a table. They come with a stick normally made up of wood to strike them with to produce a sound. The striking of the bowls with the wooden stick in a set pattern or style produces a harmony that can create soothing effects for those hearing it. These singing bowls are increasingly used in many therap ies by healthcare providers to relax mind and body across globe and especially in China, Nepal and India. In India a version of these bowls are known as Jal tarang where in seven bowls filled with water are used to produce soothing music create a healing effect. The most common design on the outside of the singing bowl is the om mani padme hum mantra. There are also designs like the eternity knot symbol on the bottom of the singing bowl, and the double dorje symbol. These Tibetan Buddhist symbols add another layer of spirituality to these lovely meditation bowls MEASURMENT This is handcrafted bowl therefore please note that each one might have slight variations in measurement. Worst Singing bowl I have yet to purchase.
First of all, it was not a 5 inch bowl as advertised, but a 4 inch bowl which effects the pitch and frequency of the singing bowl. Secondly, it was not pink like the advertised photo showed and stated, it is more like a dark mauve or plum color. Thirdly, it makes a non resonant sound when struck by the mallet, but rather makes more of a clanking sound, and I could not get it to sing at all when rubbed on the edge of the bowl with the mallet. I have had no problem making all of my other singing bowls that I own sing. And lastly, it had these black smudge markings on the brass lip of the bowl that I could not rub off completely even after scrubbing with specific brass cleaner. Oh yes, and the interior of the box smelled like mold and the wrapping was mildly damp when I first unwrapped from its shipping box.I own and have bought at least 7 different Tibetan Singing bowls from Amazon, all from different sellers, depending on the color and size of the singing bowl I wanted, and all of them have been fine, other than this particular bowl, which I really wanted for its size and color, and both of those desires were unrealized when the bowl arrived. I am only keeping it because it was not a Prime purchase and I do not want to deal with shipping it back to China... I will probably use it as a loose change bowl since it is not at all resonant... what a disappointment. Worst Tibeten Singing bowl I have ever purchased, especially for the price of $50.00+ dollars including shipping. I would not buy from this vendor.
