Can this cut thru 3in hard plastic?

Not what it is made for. Would not count on it

Think this would cut pegboard okay? I need to make a vent hole in my bench pegboard.

Absolutely not!! Unless its balser wood!! The teeth on this tool is made to cut drywall that is 3/8 or 1/2 inch thick. Do not attempt to cut wood with this saw. If you need to cut wood of any kind get you a hand saw. That cuts wood. Like handsaw, jigsaw, or even a thin blade bandsaw.

Where can I find a sheath for it?

Do a search on Amazon or on Google for "drywall saw sheath" or "jab saw sheath" and you'll find a few choices. I didn't see a sheath made by Irwin but I did see a few made by major tool manufacturers.

Good quality steel

Again, I'll say good quality steel. Didn't see any pitting or lamination in. It wasn't flimsy. It worked perfect on cutting a hole in the ceiling in the bathroom without any issues without the blade bending or breaking. It worked great, very sharp point

This drywall saw is the PERFECT tool for carving a pumpkin. If you look at Halloween carving tools invariably you'll see a drywall saw at triple the price. This is a good one with a nice grip and a sturdy blade. I don't install drywall so I can't say how well it does what it's designed to do, but it can't be beat for pumpkins.

Sturdy and Sharp

I got this little saw to carefully cut large ivy branches out of chain link fence. It’s narrow and very sharp but more importantly it has survived multiple inadvertent encounters with the steel fence fabric. I feared that would dull it but it’s still working well. It also resists bending.Great little saw.
