Sunset Boulevard Remastered

Although she didn't originate the role, I have always felt that Glenn Close's performance as Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard is the definitive one. Her emotional range in the show is amazing; in addition to her outstanding vocal ability (she's not a perfect singer, but what flaws she has plays well with the character), Close's skills as a dramatic actress are also clearly displayed. Even without the visual component, Close's voice sets the scene and she moves easily from histrionics to sly manipulation to faux humility until the final sequences when she finally loses herself in her own delusions.The supporting cast is also excellent, especially Judy Kuhn as Betty. Her voice is fresh and crisp and plays well against the smoky, sensual voice of Alan Campbell as Joe. I originally purchased the highlights version of this cast album, and while also excellent, it doesn't compare to this complete collection. This 2 CD set features extended songs and all of the instrumental pieces. This is one of Andrew Lloyd Webber's best musicals (it's definitely my personal favorite of his works) and it really captures the tragic decay of the original film. There are lots of great deals on this complete set, especially with the Used options (I got mine for less than $5, not including shipping fee) so if you love musicals I definitely recommend this set. Some people prefer to have the cast recording of those who originated the roles, and Patti Lupone is no slouch, but Glenn Close as Norma Desmond is unforgettable!

Gratefully I come upon this, a newly-found worthy target for obsessive examination-- "Sunset Boulevard", Tempting boulevard, Waiting there to swallow the unwary. Alan Campbell masters the multiple octaves assigned him in the Joe Gillis role, belting out especially the title track. Glen Close shows delicateness and dynamic tension in both her dialogue delivery and her "With One Look". Judy Kuhn, as Betty Schaefer, infuses her impressive vocals with an emotional range to match. Above and beyond all of this, George Hearn haunts me still with his powerful bass in "The Greatest Star of All".

After listening to movie samples on Amazon comparing both the London and the LA cast. I had decided to buy this edition. It turned out to be the right choice. There were 3 factors which convinced me to buy this edition rather than the London cast.1) the actors were more well known (Glenn Close) and some were portrayed in other musicals I enjoyed such as Judy Kuhn from les miserables broadway edition.2) The cast portrayed more emotion and made (and still makes) me feel more for the characters then the London Cast. Although many people may think that Glenn Close's voice isn't as powerful as LuPone's, her voice providees realism to the character and makes listeners feel emotion for her situation as well as Joe's.3) it's the more complete version out there,so in conclusion I RECOMEND that you get this version.

This is clearly the Best ALW Broadway Musical I ever saw while I didn't see the original production due to the fact I was born 8 months before it opened in November of 1994 23 year later I finally see it on Broadway in this Acclaimed Revival and it was the best musical I ever experienced on Broadway! HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL BROADWAY FANS WHO WERE BORN IN 1994 should go see this magnificent revival before it departs June 25th 😀

This was purchased as a surprise gift for my brother's partner, who is a singing and dancing teacher. She was absolutely "over the moon" when she received the gift. She loved the show when she saw it and because this edition is with Glenn Close she was even more pleased. Thank you again for a good sale, a quick sale and an even quicker mail delivery; much better than the anticipated date.

I had occasion to see her at the ENO in London, a real wonder that I saw her premiere in her first performance. Patti LuPone, Elen Paige and Petula Clark in Sttrand theatr and a version with a smaller scale

CD was in excellent condition, and it arrived when it was expected. Very satisfied with transaction.
