Leftovers: Season 1 [Blu-ray]

We are all the leftovers
I can't separate out the seasons. This is for all three. My sister recommended The Leftovers to me. After the second or third episode I confessed to her I didn’t like any of these people. They acted crazy and I said I didn’t know if I cared to see more of their lives. She reminded me they had all been traumatized and their craziness was their response to trauma. That thought held my interest and slowly I began to get involved in their search to make some sense of what had happened to them. At first I was most puzzled by Laurie because she seemed like she had lost nothing and had one of most extreme reactions. Later her loss is revealed.I so much liked Nora as she struggled to believe she had come to terms with her loss even as it became more obvious that was not the case. And Kevin who wound up discovering his bizarre gift to enter the world of the dead.I began to realize that our lives are not that different. We all struggle to make sense of a perplexing world. Many of us – maybe most of us – are traumatized by life at some point. The Guilty Remnant is not that different from Westboro Baptist Church that pickets against homosexuality at military funerals. Nora’s struggle is not unlike the aftermath some people experience after a family member commits suicide. To some degree we all feel that we were left in a place that never makes complete sense, that confounds us, disappoints us and leaves us lost. Maybe the only hedge against an uncertain world is companionship and it’s fragile at best.I began the last episode with such hope for Kevin and Nora. They had persevered on a cobbled-together faith that did little more than protect them from the chaos that stalked them relentlessly. After going though so much, it seemed their remaining lives would have been so empty apart and alone. As they each told their stories, tears streamed down my – tears of empathy for their suffering and sorry. When Kevin held out his hard and Nora placed hers in his, I felt at peace.

The Beginning of Something Incredible
The first season of The Leftovers presents something truly strange and fascinating. While it can feel unsure at first, the season develops into a remarkable and intensely developed as we dive further into the world and characters that are presented to us.If you're here you probably already know the basics, but this story follows the aftermath of a strange event that causes 2% of the world population to randomly vanish by focusing on a small New York town dealing with attempts to return to normalcy. While the mystery is compelling the true drama comes from the characters and the way they deal with loss and the unexplainable. With the writer behind Lost, the mystery and theory crafting is half the fun. But unlike Lost, this show feels consistent and clean, with all plotlines and moments adding together over the course of the episodes. What could be considered a flaw is the darkness and often depressing tone that can take over many moments of the season. Characters are dealing with dark parts of their lives which can lead to some chaotic and heart-wrenching moments. This can mean the show is not for everyone, but it will be an ultimately satisfying experience for those that it is for.I do wish that this set of the BluRay came with more special features, but there is still a lot of extra content to dive into and for less than $10 it is well worth it. With the third and final season coming up next year, there is no time better than now to catch up on what may end up being one of the best and underappreciated series of the modern TV era.

storytelling at its finest. If you're looking for network style
Absolutely riveting! storytelling at its finest. If you're looking for network style, spell it out for you black and white linear story delivery, this is not a show for you. But if you love complex relationships, peeling back the layers of the very multifaceted and often confusing thing called being a human, you are in for a treat. Combine that with a horrific event (the disappearance of 2% of the world's population, superb acting, writing, composing, cinematography, my goodness, you will be enthralled. LOST was one of my favorite shows, though, it kind of lost its luster in later seasons, this show gives us that same nostalgia. Confusion, desperation, darkness, hope, triumph, it's all there. Justin Theroux really has changed my perception of him as the 'creepy faced dude dating (now married) to Jennifer Aniston. He's magnificent in this as are just about every other main character. I cry, I get uncomfortable, uneasy etc, watching these episodes. As a mother and wife, this show strikes a cord with me that makes me think about my complaints of the 'hard times' in the days of parenting, or the petty disagreements my husband and I may have as a couple, and forces me to remember, (always remember :) that these moments aren't guaranteed, and that there will come a day, when I will long for my long tiring parenting days of my toddler, and soon to be newborn, and wish for only the sound of my husband's voice in a disagreement over the dishes. This is by far one of my favorite tv shows of all time.

A Must Watch
This show has 3 seasons and the best ending of any show I have ever watched, and I have watched a MASSIVE amount of shows. Well worth the time spent. Top notch acting and storytelling. Should have won a lot more awards IMO.

Supporto discreto, serie bellissima!
