StewMac Neck Support Caul

good enough for what it's for.
I don't have the same complaint about the construction that the other buyer had. Yes, it's a pine board with a semicircular rout that has been lined with cork. Not exactly five star service. Could I have made this myself? Not with my tools. Could I have paid someone else to make this? Probably, but it would have cost more. You need something to lie the neck down in that is the same general thickness as the guitar body. This is fine. It's tall enough that the headstock doesn't rest on the table and put pressure on it. It's a utilitarian support tool and is under 20 bucks so I don't really have many complaints about it. I don't think it's super durable, it's made of soft wood and unfinished. If you have a problem with rough edges and splinters, chances are you've got some sandpaper lying around, you can fix that problem yourself in under a minute. You don't need to see the StewMac logo, you can even give it a nice stain and finish if you'd like, class it up. Or just use it for exactly what it's intended for and something to lay the neck down in so you don't accidentally do some fool thing like lean on it while reaching over the guitar for some sandpaper to clean up the rough edges on it.

Good for Fender necks. Not much else.
Great for Fender-style necks. Useless for necks with a tilt-back headstock or asymmetrical neck profiles.

A masterpiece of understatement...
For the price I expected a bit more in terms of a finished product. It's functional, I guess, but the first thing I had to do was remove a wood sliver from my finger. That was caused by doing nothing more than examining it. The wood is soft pine and apparently received little more than a clean cut and perfunctory sanding to call it done. I can also see small gaps between the wood and cork at either end. Just a little bit more glue would've made the difference. I assume StewMac's reputation was built on other and better tools, but this will make me think twice before doing any more business with them.

Eh
Not tall enough. Have to block it up to support the neck without the headstock touching. Other than that does the job. Prolly could make one for cheaper.
