Great book set
My 3yr old grandson thinks these are the funniest books. He laughs at all the silly names. Love the colorful illustrations.

Meno books are awesome
My grandson loves the first Meno book, so I decided to purchase the other 3. I've read "big fun"( book one) to him over 50 times in the past year.

Please to be my friend? Meno brings sly humor and intergalactic friendship to your preschooler
The Meno series appears to be a love it or hate it type of thing. I found it charming in a sly, wink-wink "in on the joke" sort of way. However, I would say up front that if you have not read the first book or at least flipped through it, you may be a bit bewildered by this second adventure. Here, Meno's Jellyfish friend, Yamagoo fins himself lonely for his "wet" friends and "wet" world. Meno calls upon his space friend WISHI and she offers the two a variety of options to solve the problem including David Hasselhoff! SOme reviews have asked WHY David Hasselhoff and may not be satisfied by the answer which is, to my mind, Why Not? As with most children's books, a solution is found and everyone is happy. This book, which is the second in the series, is told using the "Meno Speak" begun in the 1st book, an English dialect reminiscent of LOLCAT speak but with better spelling. It is meant to be read out loud to a child. The suggested age group is 4 to 8 but I feel this book skews a bit younger in the 3 to 5 crowd. It's a couple of notches above Teletubby speak and has its own internally consistent logic. The book could stand on it's own but your child may start asking you questions that could be easily answered by reading the first book to them. Therefore, I suggest taking advantagge of the 4 for 3 option available on this and the first book Big Fun! (Adventure of Meno) . You'll enjoy them better as a pair. UPDATE Sept. 2011 - there are now at least 2 more Meno books in the series and they are all in the 4 for 3 category so get them all at once and have a Meno festival. We recently gave 4 Meno books to a friend's child who is a reluctant reader and he loved them. The artwork is simple but Retro and a little minimalist with the emphasis being on the faces and emotions of the characters. It reminds me a little bit of Ren & Stimpy or Aqua teen Hunger Force which may be intentional. The color scheme is orange and teal blue which reminded me of the Old Howard Johnsons hotels and restaurants which also may be deliberate! It's cute but great art it ain't nor does it appear to have been intended to be. The book itself is a nice heavy board book with an embossed cover. it's sturdy enough to leave with a small child and not worry too much about any resulting damage.Parents and pre-schoolers looking for a little simple fun won't be disappointed. However, those looking for the next "Great Children's Book" will be. This is just a little book about friendship and a pretty good one. It's fun and swet without being goofy or cloying. There is a website associated with the books ( google for it since I can't list it) where you can download a printable coloring book adventure featuring Meno for your child. It appears that there are plans to add to the website and the series so give Meno and Yamagoo a chance! Your child might want to get to know them better.

Fun Little Book
I brought this home to read to my four year old daughter, who likes animals of all shapes and sizes. A nice sturdy book, that should hold up to repeat readings.I have to admit I was a tad taken aback at the grammar. If you want a book to teach your child proper speech, this isn't for you. It was ok though, my four year old seemed to understand that this was just the way the characters spoke. Maybe the point that everyone doesn't speak the same way that we do is lost on some of the other reviewers? The story is about Meno and his "wet friend" Yamagoo. Yamagoo wants another wet friend to play with. Wishi appears to grant that wish, but first she offers a myriad of possiblities. This is the fun part of the book as she makes various suggestions for a new "wet friend" and we shout together "no Wishi" until she finally makes a suitable suggestion. The new friend appears and everyone lives happily ever after.Simple, colorful illustrations add the finishing touch to a fun book that can be interactively enjoyed by all. "Yay Wishi"!!!!

My kids enjoy the series
I have to admit I am not in love with this series as much as my kids are. We got the first book in the series, Big Fun! (Adventure of Meno) , and they read it over and over. In fact, my 8 year old read to my 3 year old over and over, which of course is priceless. It still grates on me to hear the bad grammar that covers as "alien speak," but it seems harmless enough. This book throws a little chuckle in for the grown ups which is nice. The illustrations and construction of the book are beautiful. Quality of the book is very good.If this book gets as many readings as the original, it too is worth its weight in gold.

More for adults with the right sense of humor (i think)
This is the second in the Meno series and to me it's as great as the last. Sure there aren't many pages, not much content and it really shouldn't be used as reading tool for young children but for an adult with the right sense of humor and an appreciation for the illustration style this is definitely a series to be collected. How can it be only for children when there is a David Hasselhoff joke! I think this is a case of the book being mis-marketed. I mean sure children CAN read it but I really think this is more for the adults. At first I thought it the series could be enjoyed by children and adults equally, but after reading others reactions and thinking about it, I think they are right that this isn't spot on for children. I think this is a group of adults out there (me included) that could really get a kick out of these though.

The illustrations are adorable and the characters have such fantastic expressions
I am torn on how to feel about this board book series by the always fabulous Tony DiTerlizzi. The illustrations are adorable and the characters have such fantastic expressions. However, the sentence structure is written all squirrely and backward.Example:Instead of saying: I will call my friend named Wishi; the book says: “Meno call friend of name Wishi.”While this way of speaking may sound quirky and cute coming out of Meno’s mouth I would be upset, to see young readers picking up his poor grammatical speaking skills.

Wasn't bad but hasn't been a repeat request
My three year old enjoyed reading this book but apparently didn't like it enough to add it to her rotation of favorite books. Maybe when she gets a little older she'll go back to it. In my view its a decent kids book but not a standout, in particular the level of details isn't that great.
