Dhadkan 3/27/2012
The general story line is as follows silly young rich girl flirts with danger by running around behind her parents back to see her big crush the town bad boy Dev(Sunil Shetty). He's not done anything evil yet mind you , he's just very poor . He suffers from the stigma of being without a father and opportunities that might of otherwise been possible. He falls in love with the towns rich girl Anjali and she with him . She is not a shallow character and even feels compassion for his mother's plight by promising to be with them as part of their family forever. Meanwhile back on the farm..... her parents have found her an excellent match for marriage, Ram (Akshay Kumar). He is rich with strong business connections and her father is very angry when she tells him no. She states she is in love already and has given her promise to another. He tries to be fair and tells her to bring her candidate to to the house . She goes to Dev and tells him to clean up his act and come up to the house and ask for her hand properly. Good luck on that one. After she basically is forced into it, she tells Dev goodbye. Next up the wedding. I'm telling you only Akshay could look that hot in a turban with dangling flowers in front of his face. I personally wouldn't be crying but hey that's just me. He also comes with inlaws..everyone cheer now yeehaw . Let the feuding begin. This reminds me a little bit of " Cat on a hot tin roof" only with better diction (subtitles). This marriage business is a pain in the butt trying to figure out who's on who's side. She's being romanced by her husband but dreaming of her old love. Not good. My money's on Akshay . Watch out for the return of Dev. Love conquers all but for who !!! As the dramatic (somewhat annoying) drums beat on ... giggle.. .couldn't help it. It's all that chest hair... Sigh. I miss Tom Selleck. I bought this one and I don't regret it . Enjoy.

Good Bollywood romance with a bit of an edge
This movie is about a girl (Shilpa Shetty) from a wealthy family who forms a relationship with a poor boy (Sunil Shetty - no relation. Father of girl then betroths her, without her knowledge, to a rich boy (Akshay Kumar). She tells Dad about the boyfriend and he suggests the parents meet him. Father disapproves (because of the boy's arrogant attitude as much as his lack of means to support her). He gives the girl a choice. She decides to obey Dad and the boy is heartbroken and vows never to forget her.Now this could have become a fairytale about the two lovers getting together. But we have seen the boy is deeply troubled, obsessed, has a 'chip on his shoulder' about his illegitimate birth- and just generally doesn't deserve her.She marries saintly Akshay and falls in love with him after marrying. Then old boyfriend comes back to claim her, and ruin husband. Throw in a wicked stepmother, stepsister and stepbrother for ever-loving and enduring Akshay, and you have the stuff of melodrama but also the romance of the newly weds. There is romance but also an edge. Boyfriend looks unbalanced and dangerous, where will this go...? What will wife do seeing her old love...?etcThis plot may have been done in many ways before but I thought they did a good job of it (except for overacting and stereotyped wicked step trio).Akshay was very watchable: handsome, tender in the love scenes, and believably saintly- and there was good chemistry with Shilpa. I wish Akshay would keep churning out these romances as he is very good in them and I don't like his recent comedies much (except for the recommended, if silly, Singh is Kingg perhaps) and I avoid his action ones as they isn't my style.Sunil portrays the troubled and complex boyfriend extremely well- and in fact maintains this is his favorite role to date)Although there is a bit of an unlikely fairytale finish, I quite liked the theme of whether consistent love and Godliness can triumph over hate and negativity. The movie does have heart and integrity. If you like the genre of Bollywood romance and don't mind the morality play quality to them (which I like) this is highly rated. Overall this movie tends to score fairly highly by web reviewers. It has been compared to Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (definitely a decent movie). I don't think you need to compare them as the plot is different. The husband isn't nobly handing the wife back. Also there is this theme of saintliness and whether it can triumph, which wasn't looked at in the other one. See both! The music was fine when on but I didn't take any songs away with me. The acting during the songs is good though and does deepen the plot and keeps you interested. There's not a lot of dance. Cinematography is fine and there are some nice visuals. This isn't a movie for the art cinema set or those who abhor sentimentality and Bollywood melodrama. However I'm not in those categories and I liked this one.

If you haven't watched this as yet then I suggest you do!!!
If you haven't watched this as yet then I suggest you do!!!Every man wants money. Dev is in love with Anjali and vice versa but Anjali's father does not condone the relationship because Dev is a pauper.Dev's mother passes on and Anjali is betrothed to Ram. Dev then disappears.Ram's step mother and step siblings, treat him like s***. Anjali hates them and she tries to tell Ram about their intentions but he cannot see past his love for them. They make both their lives difficult. Finally, Dev comes back and he is super rich. Anjali is now in love with Ram and she is expecting their first child. Who will she pick -- her old flame, Dev or her husband, Ram.I have watched this movie a gazillion times and the soundtrack causes a stuck song syndrome!!!
