Q: Are these gold sheets a bright, collegiate gold?

Probably not. The "purple" was pictured as a deep shade. It was not even close to that. More like a very pale dusty mauve. I would assume from that none of the colors are as pictured.

Q: The description say "set includes one flat sheet, one fully elasticized fitted sheet, and two pillowcases." But elsewhere it says 1 pillowcase.?

The twin and XL twin size sheet sets will have only one pillowcase. Other sizes will have two.

Not really. Not even after washing more than once, with good fabric softener, as would be expected with high thread count.
