Complete Piano Rags (Dover Classical Piano Music)

This book is easy to read because the notes are large. Thank you. I am very happy with this purchase. I have a lot of fun work to do. Thank goodness for Youtube. At least I can listen to the masters while I start learning "Maple Leaf Rag." I'll tackle the "Entertainer" after that. I am so excited about this purchase. This book and lots of practice will bring my piano playing to a new level. Have fun with these compositions! I know I will.This book has practice lessons before you even get to the compositions. Nice! There are 38 compositions. I hope I counted correctly. There's more than enough to expand your Ragtime repertoire. There's also an introduction that gives a brief biography about Scott Joplin. Dover Publications also includes six additional pages of musical publications you may be interested in at the end: Dover Orchestral Scores; Piano and Keyboard Editions, Popular Songbooks, and Popular music.This Scott Joplin publication also has pictures that represent the times when Ragtime was King. I LOVE this book. It's so much richer than the notes of the compositions. It's a little library of sorts.I'm happy with this purchase, and you will be too. Enjoy!

Complete Piano Rags is a great book to play from. Any pianist of modest ability should get great enjoyment from these pieces once they figure out the syncopation. Ragtime is a great crowd-pleaser, too. Complete Piano Rags also shows the covers from the original sheet music for the rags, which are amusing in some cases. Like every other Dover edition, this book is a good value at a low price, and won't fall apart through use. The only thing this book doesn't have that I wish it did is Joplin's "Solace: a Mexican Serenade," which isn't a rag, but is still very beautiful (can be heard on one of J. Rifkin's records). If you do buy this book, I recommend playing "The Magnetic Rag," and "The Fig Leaf Rag." "Elite Syncopations" has a cool ending section, too.

This was a gift to a pianist friend. He appreciated getting this book and looks forward to expanding his list of songs to play on cruise ships.

I bought this for my sister who plays piano. She enjoyed it even though she said it was more difficult than she expected because it’s so fast and she hasn’t played that fast in years. I also bought her the other music books I’ve reviewed, which is why they all say gift. I don’t play anymore but she does and nobody else buys her music.

Remarkable collection. The chapter by Dave Jasen is fantastic and provides excellent background and tips for ragtime playing. I still have one of his ragtime albums from the seventies and he knows what he's talking about. It's nice to have all the rags in one place and in their original form.

There is a commonly perceived haunting element to Scott Joplin's music-perhaps due to the century-old piano rolls we possess. In any case, this book doesn't stop short of capturing said sentiment. As with all of Dover's output, "Compete Piano Rags" boasts all the salient sections, along with some very clear printing. What's more: the book opens with several ragtime warm-ups put together by the editors. There is no reason the ragtime scholar should ignore the item.

Bought as a gift for a young music student. Easy to read and play music. Book fits nicely on the music sheet stand on the piano.

Liked the collection; found the binding, although strong, requires strong creasing to help it lie flat enough. Well indexed and helpful ragtime playing instructions.
