I fixed an antique desk with a flip top to it. The desk had broken barrel hinges which I was unfamiliar with until I did some research and found the hinges on amazon. I had to send back the first set which was the wrong size, the second set fit nicely and now the flip top works perfectly.

These were an after thought for my project, it is best to predrill before assembly for better accuracy alignment using a drill press. The small tightening screw is worthless. But on one side is a small half hole/half counter sink for a small wood screw to fasten the hinge to your door and frame.

The barrels are slightly oversized m so will not fit a 10mm hole. Also this type of hinge requires extremely accurate placement, so only consider if you can do exacting wood work.

I didn’t know this type of hinge existed until I was refurbishing an antique desk that was missing one. It would be helpful to put the span range for these hinges, but luckily they fit and work well.

Definitely need a 14mm drill. The adjustment is a small expansion screw to improve or adjust the interference fit . Glue is not necessary. A little planning is recommended. Careful impaction of the hinge is better. Also it is in someways better to have the drill holes slightly deeper than the length of the barrel. In place the hinge works beautifully.

Excellent quality and very simple to use. Just make sure you have a 10mm drill bit if you're using this with hardwood. No "normal" imperial size can be used if you want an extremely tight fit.

There is a very small set screw, <1/8", that when turned is supposed to expand the side of the hinge body, binding the hinge into the hole. The only screwdriver that will fit this tiny screw is one of those tiny ones for repairing eyeglasses. But... you cannot get the torque needed on such a small screwdriver to drive the screw sufficiently to expand the hinge body against the wall of the hole. I tightened it as much as possible and even made my own screwdriver to get more torque. The screw is not strong enough to withstand the torque needed to expand the body. The slot gets chewed up with the slightest slippage so you get one shot at this. I think if this issue were resolved, the hinge itself is of good quality. My test fits and trial open/closes worked nicely but the hinge shifts out of the hole so securing it is absolutely essential, but none of the four I tried could be secured adequately with the most torque I could muster.

Pretty good hinges. Would recommend using 15/32 hole to install.
