Q: Can you use this with a ball head allowing you to angle the camera down?

It screws directly onto the painter's pole or broom stick. Not sure how it would work with a ball head. Use the GoPro tripod shoe adapter, it gives you the ability to tilt. Or put an angled extension on it that will also give you more range of motion.

Q: What is the load rating on this? i need it to be able to hold a canon 5d mark iii with heavy l series lens. is it strong enough for that?

I think it should. It is well built. I have a Canon t2i with 24-105 L lens. Fine with that. Test CAREFULLY !!!!

Yes, the adapter screws on the pole and there's a set screw, seen at the bottom, that locks it in place. The screw on top is a standard 1/4" that your camera or tripod head screws on to.

Q: What are the dimensions of the adapter base?

The base is 1 1/8 diameter. Thanks
