Burke and Wills: The Triumph and Tragedy of Australia's Most Famous Explorers
B**Y
A vivid insight into early exploration of the Australian interior.
As in his other books, the author brings to life the characters in the story. Historical sagas are often written up as a chronological list of factual events and dates with little insight into the personalities of the protagonists but not so in this book. Here the author has delved deeply into the psyche of the people involved and the part they played in the expedition to find a route across Australia. At times the story is a laborious read and the plethora of cliches can be tiresome but, despite everyone knowing the final outcome, the author has provided a thoroughly researched appreciation of all the events that led to the sad demise of the explorers. It is a book that every Australian, or anyone interested in Australia, should read.

Very good read
Brings to life a lot about the exploration of Australia with which I think a lot of people are unaware. How vast it is and what a poorly planned expedition this was. Obviously this is the origin od the expression ''what a Burke''
