You don’t really need any tools. However, when you tighten the shower head onto the shower, if your hand strength is not so good, you might have leaks. Unfortunately, don’t know anything about the purifier part.

What do you mean by leak proof? I have had no problems and I take it on and off often.

Does this work with a soaking tub?

The length of the hose is only 5 feet, so it probably won't be long enough to use within the soaking tub itself, only for taking the showers standing up.
