There is so much to glean from this book!
I think you have to sneak up on young children with good art. This book does that. :)I like alphabet books as learning tools.I LOVE that this one shows 4 different works of art for each word associated with its letter of the alphabet. The art ranges over time as well as myriad styles to present an important message about the many, many, many ways human beings perceive anything. I can't think of a more important lesson than that. One of the best hours of my life was poring over this book with two of my grandchildren ages 5 and 7. They were interested in the words tied to the letters of the alphabet. They were interested in the various techniques and mediums depicted in the works of art on each page. They enjoyed comparing the wide variety of concepts of, for instance, what a cat might be like. This book is a treasure. I have lost count how many copies I have given away, but it's a lot. I count it as a lifetime gift. I hope that even fine-art-novice parents appreciate the credibility of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Simple beauty
This simple ABC book highlights one word per two page spread, corresponding to each letter of the alphabet. On each facing page one sees four illustrations from four different artists representing the word highlighted. A child is introduced to a variety of artistic interpretations. Lovely.

Wonderful ABC Book!
This is such a beautiful addition to my ABC book collection! The idea of highlighting different genres and works of art for each letter of the alphabet is fantastic! To be able to compare and contrast different styles on every page is a great introduction to art and the alphabet. This is a beautiful book to take your time with! My only complaint is I wish the art was credited on each page. It is credited in the end—as shown in the final photo I shared. But I’d love to have that information on the page instead of flipping back and forth. But that is a very minor quibble.
