In the early '50s, the 78 rpm recording of the lovely duet from Bizet's Pearl Fishers sung by Jussi Björling and Robert Merrill, colleagues at the Metropolitan Opera New York, became a huge seller, introducing two of the finest voices of their generation over the airwaves. Two of the greatest male voices of the golden age of the 1940's and 1950's who had a chemistry together I have never heard equalled by any other tenor and baritone. The whole album is worth the one track of the duet from Bizet's Pearl Fishers, but all the duets are great. There are also duets with Bjoerling pairing up with Licia Albanese and Zinka Milanov. If you love opera for the beautiful voices and the incredible emotion shining through the singing, this is one of the greatest single albums you can buy. I can't recommend it enough. Never better, never bettered
Going back to the orginal RCA vinyl edition, I have owned this recording in one form or another for more than fifty years. No one has ever sung the the duets from Forza and Pearl Fishers better than Bjorling and Merrill.

a lovely cd Jussi has a lovely voice and it gels with Robert voice it is an old cd but timeless if you like airas from popular Operas.

Insgesamt habe ich den Eindruck, daß etwas weniger intensiv gefiltert werden sollte, sodaß ein Schuss mehr Brillianz zum Klingen käme. Grundsätzlich aber gelungen.

Some wonderful duets. Remember that Bjorling was Pavarotti's favourite tenor.
