Good Brush...
Works well when the bristles don't fall out into my pool. I realize these brushes -- and most brushes, for that matter -- are made by a machine that folds the metal bristles in half over a pin, then folds the pin in half and inserts the pin with the captured bristles into the base of the plastic brush. In my case, the machine missed fully inserting at least one bunch of bristles and during use the bristles fell out. Luckily, I noticed the missing bristles the next day scattered on an underwater step and was able to retrieve and discard them. Fortunately no one stepped on the bristles nor did they have a chance to work their way into my new pool pump. The reason I know that that bunch of bristles was not properly inserted was because the bent pin they came loose of was not fully inserted in the plastic head.I don't think a quick look by a quality control inspector would have spotted this mistake, so I can't fault the mechanical manufacture of the brush. I inspected the remaining bristles and those that I can see clearly all appear to be fully seated in their respective holes in the plastic base.Other than that misstep, the brush does a great job of blasting the algae off the pool walls and floor, with not a lot of effort on my part. So, based solely on the operation of the brush I would have given it 5 stars, if not for the loose bristles. If you purchase this brush, please take a close look at the finished product before using it.

A must have for plaster pool owners
I had not used any algaecide in the pool this year because the water looked so clear and clean. Also, I thought there was plenty of chlorine that was keeping the algae at bay. I didn't bother using a test strip because I felt like I could tell from my eyes having a little burning sensation. We went out of town for a week and we had about three torrential rains that week that probably added 800 gallons to our 10,000 gallon pool. I left the pump running but when we came back the breaker had tripped, so I don't know how long the pool wasn't circulating water. The following week I discovered that the chlorine level was at zero, the jets were barely circulating, and a couple of hundred black algae spots had developed all around the bottom and sides of the pool. The nylon brush wasn't doing anything to help. We called a pool company to give us some suggestions and the pool lady said to try "Algae Prevention & Remover" and a wire brush. I had never heard of a wire brush, all we have ever had was nylon brushes.I ordered both from Amazon and the brush arrived a day before the chemical. I decided to test it out even without the chemical. What a pleasant surprise! In about 30 minutes I was able to get most of the spots up and the pool looked ten times better. I then performed an extended filter backwash and rinse (about 1,000 gallons). That completely took care of the circulation issue. The next day I added about 1,000 gallons of fresh water from the tap, three pounds of powdered chlorine to shock the pool, and 16 ounces of the Algae Prevention & Remover. The following day that brush was performing miracles on our pool. This time it was removing more of the stubborn algae spots and lots of calcium deposits. If you have a marcite/plaster/tile type in ground pool (not nylon), and you do not own a stainless steel metal wire brush, I would highly recommend that you get one of these. Even though I was skeptical when it had a sticker on it that said "Made in China" my skepticism has been removed. None of the bristles have come out and they are all in good shape after one hour of pretty heavy use. The brush is ten inches wide, one inch thick, and the bristles are about an inch and a quarter long. Also, even though the brush is much smaller than a nylon brush, the brush does most of the work, unlike a nylon brush where you do most of the work.

Great for removing scale and calcium deposits
Over the winter, my pool's plaster surface grew a coating of sharply pointed calcium bits that would cut your feet if you walked on the pool's floor. Dirt had attached itself to the calcium too, and was not removable using a brush with plastic bristles. Sandpaper was effective at removing the calcium, but that was not going to be practical in a 20x40 pool. So I ordered this brush, and it has done a fantastic job of removing the calcium buildup. Did not leave any unsightly marks on the plaster either.A few other things I did which helped: lowered the pH to 7.2, and total alkalinity to 80. Added some descaling solution. This helped loosen up the calcium deposits, making it easier to remove them.Lesson learned: don't let your calcium hardness get out of control. Mine was well over 300 ppm when the pool was opened.

Works for Green Algae too
I purchased this brush because the pool was invaded by green algae during the late winter/spring cycle. I treated the pool with chemicals and algae killers but large splotches still remained. I feared that black algae (the most stubborn due to its invasive roots) had taken hold on my Pebble Tech surface. I used the brush with pole to attack the algae and it was 90% affective at removing it. The Pebble Tech was not damaged. The remaining stubborn spots had to be dealt with me physically going under the water with the brush (minus pole) and using it like a scrubbing brush. -- My brush did not lose any bristles and it appears to be made very sturdy. I believe I will get years of use with this brush as long as I store it out of the sun's UV rays. The attachment is aluminum and the blue portion is heavy plastic. The brush is stiff and does not flex and it works as designed. I am happy with the purchase. My only gripe was with the UPC sticker on the brush, which is impossible to remove and falls apart in the water. I just vacuumed it out during my routine cleaning; no big deal. I would buy this brush again if I need a replacement. Simple and effective.

Great heavy duty algae brush!
This brush is heavy duty as advertised. I needed a brush to get rid of black algae growth in my pool during the summer. Unfortunately, this wasn't the first brush I purchased, but it was the last one. It worked great and has held up under heavy usage. I have inspected the brush before and after each use and I have not had any bristles fall out. That was a problem with a different brush I had purchased and returned.
