The flip up top gives me easy access to the litter box

I’ve had this lid for just over a month. I really liked at first, it fit the litter pan we also bought from petco just perfectly, locked well etc. But two days ago I hear my cat screaming in pain, and I run in to check on him and he’s got his foot/leg stuck between the hinges on the top of the lid (where you fold it up to clean it) and we had to rip the plastic door, the filter holder, and hinged piece off as fast as we could to release him. I’m not sure why he was on top of the box in the first place, but he’s a cat and cats play and jump on things all day long, so this shouldn’t be a possibility. His leg went through while the box top was closed and in its normal useable state, not while the hinge was pulled up, which makes this even scarier. The cat is okay now, but the lid is broken.
