fun lego for my 9 year old
My son (age 9)received this for xmas this year and when he opened it xmas morning he about went ballistic as he has been wanting this set for a while. When it came time to build it he opened the box to find that none of the bags were numbered like other lego sets---I looked at him and said I do not build these and if you are going to cry lets put it away and return it. He looked at me and said "Mom, I got this!!" so he tore open all the bags that were in the box and there lay over 1k lego pieces on my dining room table and he went straight to work. six hours later he was just about done but missing one lego piece that he needed to attach the last wing to the ship. so now we are waiting on that one little piece to arrive from lego. on contacting lego the customer service rep was very friendly and said our piece should arrive in 7-10 days. I love the lego company. Back to the review of this product, my son had no help from me or his dad or anyone else for that matter, he did this all on his own. we usually do not buy him the bigger lego sets as they do not seem as sturdy as the smaller ones, but this one being huge he carries it around and plays with it and it does not fall apart like other sets he has owned. has neat little bombs he likes to drop on us and around us. a fun toy for him to play with. Would I recommend this for a 9 year old?? Well if your child is into legos and has the wherewithall to build this then i say yes.My son read the directions and patiently built from pieces what is now a ship. he not only learned patience and taking his time to do it right, he also gained confidence knowing he could do something like this all on his own. kudos to everyone who has built this!!! and for those who are thinking of undertaking this task!!overall a great learning experience for my son and confidence booster. just remember if purchasing this product that the bags are NOT numbered and this is not a simple lego set. have fun and enjoy it!!!

Great Addition to a Huge Collection
I bought this for my son for Christmas. He absolutely freaked when he opened and was shaking with excitement. He is a huge Star Wars fan and a self-proclaimed 'Lego Master.' Dad stayed up until midnight one night to complete this ship, 9 hours in all. The 6-year-old Lego master is absolutely thrilled with it. He took it with him everywhere for the first few days, without breaking. Unfortunately, it broke when his friend accidently knocked it off the bed. He fixed most of it on his own, but dad will have to do the rest. The many moving parts and 'secret' compartments, make the fun of this toy last for days and days, if not longer.Yes, it does have a lot of parts and a HUGE instruction booklet, but it is worth all of it. I am from the days when Legos came in a giant box with no instructions, so I wasn't very supportive about getting my son Legos that require instruction books. Since it has broke, my son has already used many of the parts to create new ships and such. Given that he still uses his creativity, Legos with directions are great in my book.He wanted to let everyone know "It Rocks!" He does recommend this ship, although he advices children to keep an eye on their parents so they don't try and make it theirs.

This set is feature rich, fun to build and sturdy during play!
The LEGO Star Wars Venator-class Republic Attack Cruiser (8039) was a little much for my 7 year old son but he worked on it diligently over the holidays. This set has so many features the box can't show all of them. I love a LEGO set that has 'bonus' treats revealed as it is constructed. The design results in a sturdy ship with a great handle allowing it to be 'flown' around with one hand while the other; drops bombs (bombs in space... huh), takes out threats on either rear flank with the manned rail gun or bailing in the escape pod.We didn't host this year so after the ship was built it had to be broken down enough to be boxed and packed in the car. When we got home I reassembled the ship and got a really good look at the reinforcement used in the movable side panels and foundation. I think it could take a two to three foot drop without critical damage (I'm thinking of posting a video review of this test). We also put together the LEGO - 8098 - Clone Turbo Tank and the LEGO Star Wars ARC-170 Starfighter (8088) and they were fun too but this one was the star of the holidays.Cheers

Great fun for the lego fan!
I bought this for my 6 yr old who is obsessed with anything Star Wars and Lego. It was sold out almost everywhere and it was one of only 2 things on his Christmas list. Thank goodness for Amazon :) I have to say it's a little advanced for him just because there are SO MANY PIECES! Aaaah! So many! But.. he did it and loves it, and it will probably be broken into it's millions (only a thousand or so) of pieces very soon. Great product and great seller!! Thanks..

Great idea but too fragile for kids
This is a very impressive kit and kept our 7 and 9 year old sons occupied for a good long while - but the problem is that it is very fragile when built and has some weak points. No sooner had they finished it and were triumphantly carrying it down to show to mom and dad, than the thing began to fall apart. It just doesn't seem to be that well designed - as opposed to other Lego Star Wars products like the mid-size Millennium Falcon.I realize they're trying to cram a lot of features into these things, but the be-all and end-all needs to be basic durability. I'm not talking the ability to be played with roughly - I'm just talking about the ability to pick the darn thing up without it starting to shed pieces all over the place. For that reason I'm reluctantly giving it three stars.

My Son Loves It
First let me review the seller. There are some negative posts about the invoice not matching the actual purchase price. The system the seller has set up sends an invoice with the item. The invoice price DID NOT match the amazon price. HOWEVER the price ACTUALLY CHARGED to my bank acct was the amazon purchase price not the invoice price. Rest assured the price you see on amazon is your price. I was hesitant after reading those reviews but am glad I went ahead. You will not be charged more than you are supposed to. The communication was great and shipping was fast. I would definately buy from again. Now for the star wars lego set I bought. It was complicated to put together as should be expected but my 7 year old son loves it.
