Eagle In The Sky is my all time favorite of Wilbur Smith’s novels. The action and adventure is combined into a beautifully written love story. Wilbur Smith’s books put you into his world and you don’t want it to end!! He has written many books and has some series. The Egyptian Series is excellent!!

Wenige Bücher verdienen 5 Sterne - dies ist eines davon.Mein erstes Buch von w. Smith, so daß ich ohne Verleichsmöglichkeit bin, bezüglich seines Leistungsvermögens wie mein Vorredner.Was ich aber sagen kann: sehr gutes Buch, mit einer sehr sauber ausgearbeiteten Geschichte mit extremen Realismus, ohne medizinischen Schrott oder "Wunderheilung". Die Ängste und der Kummer der beiden Protagonisten David und Debra sind sehr gut ausgearbeitet und die beiden entwickeln sich über den langen Zeitraum der beschrieben wird, wirklich weiter!Ich kann das Buch jedem ans Herz legen, der Realismus in seinen Helden mag; denn ja - es ist eine fantastische Liebesgeschichte, es sind gebrochene Menschen, die heldenhaft agieren, es ist nie unrealistisch und es ist eine Geschichte, die schwierige Themen, wie Befehlsverweigerung, Aktionismus im Krieg beinhaltet und auch das Scheitern des einzelen erzählt.Lesen!

This is one of Wilbur's earlier books written in 1974 and as such, when compared to his more recent offerings, may seem somewhat dated.This was the first book I downloaded onto my kindle when it was given to me. I found the tender love story between David and Debra to be as touching now as it was then when I read it for the first time.His descriptions of the South African bush are spot on. His portrayal of Isreal and its people make me want to visit that beautiful country and experience it first hand.I experienced the G force that David felt when he was thundering through the skies in his mirage. I cried when he became burnt, at the loss of his beauty, at his pain and ulimately his growth. This story tears at your heart with its beautiful and heartrending descriptions of love, sacrifice and redemptionAs usual, WS had done his homework and his research is meticulous and accurate and it comes accross in an absorbing way.I was sorry when the story came to an end as I felt that is was rather abrupt and I was waiting for more.I wonder what David and Debra are doing now?.........
