Good alarm clock.
OK, let's sort through some misinformation that was posted by other reviewers and get the facts out about how this clock actually works. I've used it for some time now and I have first hand experience with all of its features. The clock is 100% battery operated. The display is back-lit with a green light. There is a sensor on the Snooze bar that senses the ambient lighting level in the room. If there is light in the room, the green back light is OFF. This makes sense because why use up battery power when there is enough ambient light to see the clock display? As the room light changes from light to dark, the green back light changes from OFF in a lighted room to a dim very low level in a dark room.If the Snooze bar is pressed, the dim low level green back light changes to a bright high level as long as the Snooze bar is held down.I read somewhere that "waving your hand" over the Snooze bar/sensor causes the green light to brighten. Not really true. If the room light is at a very low level and the back light starts to change from OFF to some degree of ON, waving your hand over the sensor only blocks the room light so the sensor thinks the room is dark and this causes the back light to go to its maximum dim very low level. It does NOT cause the back light to go to the bright mode as it does when you press the Snooze bar.The only way to make the green back light very bright is to press the Snooze bar. Not even sure why you would want to make it brighter, as the low level light is OK to read the clock. The low level green back light in a pitch black room is what the manufacturer calls "unobtrusive". I am a bit anal about LED's in the bedroom. I even have a piece of tape on the LED in my smoke alarm. The low level green back light does not bother me at all. It is a very soft light that offers more than enough back light to read the clock display in a dark room as well as having enough light that I can see to get out of bed and return without any issues. It really is easy to set both the time and alarm.Turning the alarm ON or OFF is done with a slide switch next to the Snooze bar. Some clocks have a three position slide switch and sometimes you may not be sure exactly where it's set. This one is simple, ON or OFF.The "chirp" of the alarm is pleasant. I really don't like an abrasive alarm tone. This one will wake you up, but not annoy you.Not sure about battery life yet. That would be the only reason to rank at 4 stars or less. The overall functionality is 5 stars.12.FEB.2013 Update - If you need a good dependable alarm clock, this is it. I have used it for over 1 year and it has performed perfectly. One benefit I have come to appreciate is the size. I do not like hotel room alarm clocks. They are not to be trusted. This one is small enough that I put it in my luggage an take it with me. Then, I have something I know works and it is easy to set and use.

Wonderful clock. GREAT warranty/customer service from mfg.
I LOVE this little clock, but it stopped working correctly, so I emailed the MFG and they sent me out a new one and it has worked perfectly, so if you have trouble, this has a nice warranty and they stand by their warranty. That is VERY important to me! The LCD's became dim halfway down and it was not a low battery. But, make sure you use your warranty! There are several things I like about this clock. It is rather small, which is what I wanted, but the numbers are large enough for me to read without my glasses on, when I am in bed. Also, it has a sensor, that detects when the room is dark and brightens up the display nicely so it is easy to read. It has a button on top for that purpose, but I like that the feature is automatic. My favorite thing is the alarm. It starts with a gentle beep every few seconds, which speeds up and gets louder if you don't hit snooze or turn it off. The reason I love this feature is that I hate being jarred out of bed. Some days it is necessary, and this clock will do that, but if you are laying there sleeping lightly, the clock is gentle with you at first.

Very Good Clock
I purchased this clock to replace one with which I was quite happy. The old clock died because I allowed the batteries to corrode and break one of the springs. My bad. The new clock arrived today. I installed the batteries and set the time. So far so good. The problem with the new clock is that the back light does not work. At all. The instructions that came with the clock say, "If your product is not working properly, please send: the product, a letter explaining the problem, and $5.00 for postage and handling to... etc." I DON'T THINK SO.UPDATE: I'm changing my rating from 1 star to 4. I reseated the batteries and now the backlight is working. One of the batteries may not have been making contact. Now it's all good. I like these clocks a lot. They are easy to read in the light or in the dark from about 10 feet away. The backlight is bright enough to see the time, but not so bright as to be distracting near the TV (which is where I have it located). The controls are intuitive and the time is easy to set. I don''t use the alarm, but I assume it is adequate. I like the fact that the clock runs on batteries and does not need to be plugged in. I would only suggest that you replace the batteries when the backlight starts to dim.

Best alarm clock
I've had this type of clock for years. I bought the first one at a store. Loved it. Finally after many many years, it finally quit on me. The numbers were hard to read and light wasn't as bright. Looked up the brand and was super surprised to find the exact same one. I had to get it. Works perfectly. Just have to remember to check the batteries after so many months, because one time they got corroded and I had to clean it out. But that was the old clock.

Lasted Six Months!
I'm really disappointed in this clock. I bought it in December 2011 and by the end of June 2012 it was malfunctioning. I had spent a long time looking for an alarm clock that I liked, and finally found this one that was just what I wanted. It's bigger than most battery-powered clocks (it requires three AA batteries; not one as in the description). The body of the clock has a cool retro design - it's a pretty sonic blue color with silver buttons, and the clock face has a soft green glow. I love the large numerals which are easy to see at night. I only use the alarm function on rare occasions when I need to make sure I wake up at a certain time. One day the alarm went off when it wasn't supposed to. I thought I'd bumped it and turned it on accidentally. The next day the alarm went off again; was someone playing a cruel trick on me? On the third day when this happened yet again, I noticed that even though the alarm switch was turned to the off position, the alarm icon showed that the alarm was still set. The alarm was now stuck on and I could no longer shut it off! It's not like the switch was worn out because I hardly ever used it. This clock may look nice, but the quality is extremely poor. I've had clocks that were half the price last much longer than this one.
