This is a proper printer.
I don't like wireless printers. Half the time I can't get it to work right. This printer thou. I click print, and it prints. Without hesitation. That I like.

Happy Happy Happy!
My Pixma was a dutiful friend for the last few years but eventually, it gave out and it was time to buy another printer. I gave up on replacing it after reading all of the terrible reviews on Amazon for many of their inkjet models. I decided to go with this laser printer for basic home office use and do color printing at my local shop. I was very concerned I might experience several of the issues listed by reviewers about this model. I'm happy I read those reviews because it saved me time and stress!InstallationInstallation took me under an hour, including unboxing the item and removing the tape.I connected my printer via USB to my Windows desktop.I chose a custom installation for the drivers and excluded everything but the basic app.PrintingPrints quickly and beautifully. No issues with waking up from sleep mode (wakes up immediately). No issues with paper registration because I opted out of the additional software that bloats your computer.DisplayNo issues with the display panel. Very easy to see and use.Scanning and FaxingI have not tried these features yet. We've abandoned using scanning via the printer and prefer to use Adobe Scan from our phones instead. I find it quicker and just as good as a typical scanner for imaging basic documents and bills. I will, however, try these features in the next few weeks and update my review!Size and WeightThis is a tall unit, around 14", and has some weight to it. Not surprising since it's a laser printer.Toner PricingOh boy, I was not prepared for how expensive the Canon toner is! It's about $72 on Amazon. I realize this is normal for laser printers but I haven't used one in so long I had a moment of sticker shock. There are non-Canon cartridges for this printer for a third of the price; however, I'm all about peace of mind. There are bad reviews about using non-Canon cartridges and equally bad reviews about the Canon cartridges as well. After a bit of research, watching out for expired toner is important in terms of ink yield and error messages for Canon toners. My recommendation is to read the latest reviews and buy from a vendor that has good stats. That may increase your chances of getting a fresh cartridge!Beware! The bottom of this printer will scratch your table or shelf! If you're concerned about scratches, attach felt pads to the bottom of the printer prior to placing it on your furniture.Overall, this was a great buy. I'm very happy with it and will update my review as we move along. It's a good price and works well. Be sure to read the reviews before you buy and don't bloat your computer with the add-ons!

A fine printer, recommended
After upgrading to a Win 11 computer, my earlier version of this printer was no longer compatible (thanks MS :-( ) I bought this printer as a replacement for home use. So far it has been a fine replacement for my previous one, which I had used for nearly a decade. Hope this one lasts as long.

NOT WIRELESS -FAILED SUPPORT
NOT WIRELESSI do not have this printer running yet and when I do I suspect I will edit with a more favorable rating . Canon does make a good product. Here is the problem. I thought I was ordering a wireless printer which I really wanted. It took as poster on YouTube to declare it is not wireless (he thought it was as well). I read the shipping box and the Amazon ad and sure enough it does not say it is wireless. My bad.First, are big companies still making products that are not wireless? I guess so. My much more important frustration is that in the box is the manual but the manual does NOT include information for this model number. I then went to the Canon Website per instructions in the manual telling me I could find wireless set up there. I visited that site and, voila, my model number is NOT available in this catalog for wireless set up. Are you kidding me? Why would a manual in the box of the machine I ordered direct me to an irrelevent website (now I know).I then found a troubleshooting dialogue box in Canon and described my problem. Yesterday I sent them an e-mail, still not aware that my printer is not wireless. No answer as of today. Not an ackowledgment, nothing. Only this morning did I discover the printer is not wireless, no thanks to Canon.I have never had such poor "support" from a major corporation. Would I buy this again? We'll see after I set is up but what a fustercluck.Update: The printer and scanner are now working as they should and are a significant improvement over HP printers I have had. I will not improve my rating though. It is extremely important to me when I reach out to a vendor to get a reply. Canon did not reply. And, the manual does include the right instructions but does not list my model number; I just guessed that the chances were good. Really shoddy support and sales. 11/20/2017This is my wife's amazon account. She bought it for me as a gift....John

Great printer, goes easy on toner, excellent print quality.
Purchased in December 2021 and still running with the toner cartridge it came with. Granted pretty much what I print are receipts for e-payments but there have been some product manuals, recipes etc.I would say this is a great printer! I use it hard wired directly to the router so I haven't had to deal with wireless connectivity issues.

Won't Print From Computer
It does still make copies, and as a photocopier, it works really well.It scans anything in black and white quite nicely. It just doesn't print from the computer, and doesn't do faxes. It won't update the drivers. Not doing faxesis OK, - who does that anymore? I just attach to an email or send it via DropBox. But I am really bummed it doesn't PRINT.I still use it to make copies and scan black and white things.Canon tech support was never able to help me resolve the print from computer issue, and since I wanted a color printer (now having a use for color printing), I purchased a color Canon printer (a Pixma g5020), so I'm covered on the printer side, and now can also copy and scan. So I have 2 devices instead of one. Meh.
