Yes, the swaddles are meant to have the slit in the back. The slit in the back is there so you can use the swaddle with bouncers and swings. We do not recommend using a swaddle with an infant car seat.

Q: Does the velcro still function well after washing?

Yes, it is super strong. I recommend folding the Velcro pieces in so it doesn’t stick to other things in the wash

Q: There is a hole/slit in all of these where the butt would be. Is this a defect/damaged clothing?

No, the swaddles are not defective. I have read there is a slit/opening area in the back so that the swaddles can be worn while baby is in a swing, chair, or items with a strap/belt feature, etc.
