Exactly What I Ordered
This covers everything I need in a travel bag, camp bag, Bug out bag, in spades.I've sampled a bunch of bags, purchased a bunch more for myself and close friends/family, and this pack takes the cake. Spacious, roomy, has all the needed pockets, and built durable. The internal frame is light but supportive. The the top shell pocket is perfect for CCW or must-haves. The wing pockets allow for any number of additional, unconventionally sized gear like take down bow or PVC fishing rod case, and it's extremely comfortable on the shoulders/hips. The bottom pouch easily holds your shoes if you want to keep the mud off the rest of your gear. Zippers are strong and have loops large enough to be used with a gloved hand, you can tuck the shoulder straps in and use it for carry-on, and it's light enough weight you don't feel you're carrying a sink when it's empty.I have the Eberlestock modular hunting system and an old hand-me-down red Ascent 40L backpack. It's heavier than the Ascent, lighter than the Eberlestock. The size and configuration works on a range of body types and whatnot, but can't hold a lot of extra gear (like the Eberlestock). Keeps the weight centered where it should. I'm a little iffy on the MOLLE straps and haven't tested them: couldn't fit my ESEE knife on it so didn't bother.I used it on a plane trip and two camping/hiking trips, and it works exactly as I expected. The color and design also make it less obvious than a big camo hunting backpack, or the bright color backpacking bag (if you're trying not to be noticed). I'm not so much a fan of advertising my gear.

SOG has great products.
This is such a cool bag! I bought it for the sole purpose of continuing the search for the perfect bag for an emergency bag. It has a little bit of a tactical look but is kind of low key too. The side flaps are awesome to conceal the knife and lightweight hatchet I have. Theres a ton of room inside and I dont have to deal with outer random pockets, there is a series of inner pockets with mesh and zippers for a couple small items I like to keep contained together. The hard top pocket is such a cool feature but does take some thought as to what a person might store in it. The whole thing unzips on both sides and is nearly a clamshell design when opening. With the side buckle straps still connected it opens up at the top enough to still grab what you might need. Theres not a lot of thrills but the design, look, quality, simple approach is exactly what I was looking for. I threw a rain cover over it to cut down on the possible neck turning abilities and give a more stream lined look to it...and now its resistant to rain. Anyway, I love this bag and shortly after I saw a character wearing it on the show Colony. Haha, it must be a great bag!

Could be great but just isn't
This bag could be great, but there are a few problems. The molle is 90 degree the wrong way (all SOG’s other bags have it correctly) so if you attach anything for backpack carry, it will be 90 degrees the wrong direction. I contacted SOG asking them why and they said it's because "it's meant to be primarily used as a DUFFLE BAG". Ok, right. If that's so, then why does the clamshell pocket on top open from the BOTTOM when used as a duffle bag. In other words, if you use this as a duffle bag, opening the hard top pocket, the only way you can, from the bottom, means all your things inside come pouring out. So obviously this was meant to be a BACKPACK first, because then the hardtop pocket works fine correctly. SO......use as a backpack and the molle is unusable, use as a duffle bag and the main hard top pocket is unusable.PROS:1) . The 4 zippers on the main compartment is great, so you can access the main pocket from the side. Good design2) . Zippers are smooth. Seems like a no-brainer, but it really isn't. Even my vanquest zippers catch sometimes, but these are good.3) Love the flap/wing design4) Like the hard clamshell top design5) The internal daisy chain is a nice feature, though maybe not the most necessary6) LOVE the way this bag LOOKS. Might be my favorite in terms of aesthetics.CONS1) . Molle is the wrong way if you use as a backpack2) . Hard clamshell top opens the wrong way if you use as a duffle (from the bottom, spilling all your contents every time you open), so no matter how you use this pack, a major feature will not work properly3) Poor back padding. It feels "okay" when you're using it, but then when you put on any other pack with GOOD back padding, you'll really notice the difference. I think SOG didn't give good padding on the back so it is flatter when using as a duffle, but could have done better than THIS, as the backpack suffers (and a backpack is probably how it will most often be used)4) Lack of any way to adjust for torso length5) No attachment points on the BOTTOM of the pack. This would be an EASY fix6) No bottle holders. This is probably because the wings/flaps are in the way, but with the molle the wrong direction, attaching a bottle holder will ALSO be the wrong the direction (horizontal to the ground), so unusable. You won't have any water bottle access with this bag7) Waist straps need more than one line of attachment. Anything you attach to your waist strap will flop around, unlike other bags with several lines of attachment to weave throughFIXES:1) rotate the molle on the flaps/wings 90degrees so what we lose with the flaps/wings, can be made up for with attachments while using as a backpack2) . MUCH better back padding3) Make it torso adjustable4) Add attachments points on the bottom5) Add another line of molle "weave" on the hip straps so attachments don't flop with every step6) High vis interior liningBOTTOM LINE:Lots of GREAT design ideas, coupled with POOR design ideas. Talking to SOG, got BS answers from them, so not sure I'd trust in their thought process if they aren't willing to accept real world feedback, but just make excuses which are lame (like it's meant primarily as a duffle, which I explained earlier why it could not have been designed that way - smartly anyways)

An exceptional backpack
Not much bad to say about this backpack, if at all. It's a mid-size bag suitable for day hikes; if packed right, longer excursions are easily possible. The material is exceptional and is a very well built bag. The design of the bag is one of the best I've run across. From the top loading to the side panels, the bag allows for a variety of options to store materials. I have a few backpacks in my use right now, from camping bags to backpacks you take across countries for extended hikes and travel, and this bag easily stakes up. If you are looking for a great bug-out-bag, this is exceptional. If you are looking for the bag for overnight or extended travel, this is still exceptional. You cannot go wrong with this backpack.
